Do You Conceal A Full Size Glock?

I sometimes pack my G20 IWB in the winter. It is a bit heavy, but with a solid belt it stays put. The rest of the time it is a sub-compact 9mm or revolver.

I carry a G17 most of the time. I prefer the full size pistol for carry. I feel that it offers me more control than smaller pistols.

I do own a G19 and a G26 as well. The G19 is more comfortable to carry, and doesn't sacrifice much barrel length, sight radius, or grip length. I will usually carry the G19 when the weather forces me to shorts and polos. The G26 is a dream to carry. There are time that I will forget that it is there. I will usually carry the G26 if I am in shorts and a T-shirt.

I can shoot both the G26 and G19 well, but not as well as I can shoot the G17, Which is why I think that I prefer it. I have more rounds through my G17 and I feel comfortable running it at speed.

Yesterday, I decided to carry my G17 under a loose polo. I went to a few public places and was not "made". Normally, an IWB holster and a button up over shirt (made of thin , lightweight material for summer) is what I use. I just bought a 5.11 button up short sleeve shirt made of nylon and it has been working well.

Like others have said, if you want to carry a full size, you have to dress around it. Saying that, I am not above carrying a smaller, lighter pistol when it is not feasable or practical to carry a full size.

when I carry something bigger than my KT PF9 It's either an XD9 4" or my G21 SF for the G21 I have a DeSantis speed scabbard pancake holster or if I need it hidden a little better a crossbreed supertuck...which is "the best" in IWB holsters in my book I'll be adding one for my PF9 ASAP For comfort you can't beat a good pancake or modified pancake (outside moulded) if it has to be IWB you need a crossbreed.

I carry a fullsize 92FS IWB - so, a Glock would be no different. I am 175lbs too, so I'm not a huge guy.

I carried a full-size G-22 for years, for the same reasons I carry a full-size 1911 now. Smaller guns are harder to shoot, they have a smaller sight radius and less weight to soak up recoil.

I used a shoulder rig, a fanny pack, and an IWB holster. Adjust your wardrobe and lifestyle to fit the gun, not the other way around.

Ill let you know when I finally get my Talon IWB holster for my G20SF from Alessi
Got it today, it works great, appears to be well made.
I think I'll be carrying my G20 a lot more now, I was able to hide it fine with just some shorts and a white Hanes t shirt.

G17 is my EDC, it's not a problem, fully loaded it weighs about the same as an empty 1911 and is actually fairly thin for full-size combat handgun.
Holster choice is everything though, I use a Custom Carry Concepts Versa-Clip (very small footprint) with the OWB option deleted so it's more comfy IWB, Comp-Tac's Infidel, Galco's Triton, and Blade-Tech's Nano all work well also... I'd avoid the leather backed IWB holsters (m-tac, supertuck, etc) if you are actually serious about carrying a full-size, they have their fans, but they all have huge footprints and create new obstacles to overcome in order to stay concealed, trying to stuff all that into your waistband gets old quick and isn't worth it IMO (for example, a G19 or even a G26 in a supertuck is WAY harder to conceal than my G17 in it's Versa-Clip).

I could carry my 17 IWB just fine...if I wore baggy clothes. I don't like baggy clothes. I sold it and bought a 19. It conceals way better. I manage to conceal it well even when wearing a form fitting (not super tight) t shirt and shorts. I find it odd, since there really is very little size difference between the 17 vs 19.

If I'm not carrying the 19, I'm carrying a Kimber Pro CDP II. If I ever purchase another firearm for ccw, it will be a 9mm commander sized 1911 with a bob tail grip.

I can barely conceal my G30 in the winter. In the summer it is fanny pack only. I couldn't imagine trying to conceal carry a full sized glock.

Out of curiosity, what holster are you using and how are you carrying? I only ask because I thought guys like me had the most difficulty concealing (around 5'10" 170). I conceal a 19 without resulting to baggy clothes.

I don't usually try to be confrontational to individuals, but I have to say it. Your inability to imagine carrying a full-size gun says nothing about the gun, and a lot more about your mindset, experience, and level of dedication. People of all shapes and sizes carry full-size guns all the time. When I hear someone say "I can't carry full-size", what I REALLY hear is; "I don't take this seriously enough to adjust my wardrobe and lifestyle. My guns is an accessory, not a survival tool. This is a hobby, not a way of life." When you say; "I can barely conceal", I flat don't believe it because plenty of other people do it with bigger guns just fine.

Comfort is relative. If you take a person who is opposed to guns at all, and you put the tiniest gun made in the easiest possible carry spot, they will swear it weighs ten pounds and feels like a tumor. If you take a kid who turned 21 61 days ago and just got his carry permit in the mail, after waiting years for the opportunity, and hang a Desert Eagle under his left arm, he will swear he doesn't feel it.

I'm 5' 10" 170, and I carry a full-size 1911 year-round including 100+ degree heat. I don't own any baggy clothes. Look at a Crossbreed Supertuck, a good IWB holster, and a fanny pack. Don't say it can't be done when many of us do it every day.

You assume alot and we know about people who assume. You don't know me and yet you want to insult me? I carry a 1911 with no problems or a CZ 85 Combat with no problems. The G30 is much thicker than either of them. I use a OWB Fobus or a fanny pack when I run.

My normal edc is a PF9 which can be worn just about anywhere with no issues. I occassionally carry other weapons as the mood hits. For summer wear the G30 is usually in a fanny pack when I run. I find Glocks extremely large compared to other makes. What is so hard to understand about that?

I know it's not a full size, but I carry a glock 30... in a my strong side POCKET:evil:

When I carry this way I use a desantis nemesis made for the glock 26... it fits great.

I also use a glock sport combat holster for owb carrying. I highly recommend this very inexpensive holster.

want to carry something heavy try a dan wesson model 15 with a 6 inch barrel, I tried it one day with mine just to see how it would feel, and believe me after 9 hours with it on my g21 seemed light as a Feather,

I'm the same height and weight. I have no trouble concealing a full size 1911, either. I just don't. It's more comfortable to me to carry something with a slightly shorter barrel. That's my choice and it has zero to do with adjusting my wardrobe or lifestyle.

I can't, however conceal well with a crossbreed supertuck. I have to use a different holster. A crossbreed makes me look like I have a 3rd cheek out back unless I wear a long, long shirt that covers my rear while standing up. I can wear a standard IWB (like post#30) holster and conceal just fine with a regular polo shirt or t-shirt.

I hear of many people being able to conceal 1911's and full size glocks and I am determined to be one of those people. I am 6'3 195lbs and have been shying away from my LCP and my SN.38 and wanting to carry my G17 and 1911. I used to have a G36 and it was perfect, I am just not crazy about guns that only have a 6rd capacity and regrettably I sold it. Tonight I am going to try a few things to find a way to conceal full size.

It all depends on height, weight, frame, figure, gun, holster, clothes Etc... Trial and error, just try different things until you get it right.

Don't let someone tell you its because you're small or because of any other aspect of your body, sure those are things to take into account but where there's a will there's a way. I'm a pretty large man and I still havnt found the right combination for full size carry.....but I will

Yesterday I qualified for my department. I was a little off with my Glock 22, shooting 244 out of a possible 250. Then I qualified with my bug, a ruger lcp .380. Scored 249! Same course of fire, from 3 yds. to 25 yds. No, I wouldn't carry the lcp as a primary ccw (i usually carry a kahr cw40), but you don't have to carry a fullsize gun to be accurate.

I never said that no one can carry or shoot a small gun. What I said was that you shouldn't kid yourself about it being better when you really just don't want to carry a big gun. Start with the full-size, small guns are something you train your way up to.

Dusty, look at the Crossbreed Supertuck. One option that works for everyone and every size is the fanny pack. However, it is less fashionably acceptable in some places than others. Or so my wife tells me.

Amen, I had a para p12. Contrary to popular belief, the little 1911 doublestack was dead bang reliable and amazingly accurate. I was able to shoot it better than most of my full size pistols. The gun didn't fit any needs for me, though. It was too fat to conceal without a jacket...a really thick jacket. It was easier for me to attempt concealing a full size glock or definitely a 1911.

I can partially agree with that. I can imagine that a g17 > g19 or a g19 > g17 for defensive purposes. They're simply isn't that much difference in barrel length or sight radius. I actually shoot better with a g19 than with a g17 gen 4 that I previously owned. I don't see anything wrong with learning to shoot on a compact glock for a beginner. It isn't that small. Many, many people learned to shoot on a glock 19.

A G-19? Sure. But if people start with tiny guns, particularly 'saturday night specials', because they are smaller, and tell themselves they are just as good, they are clearly kidding themselves. I see this a lot when sexists help women buy their first gun, steering them towards tiny ones because they are less intimidating. This starts them with unreliable little guns that are difficult to shoot.
