Taurus Buyer Be Warned

As explained, expecting a manufacturer to compensate you for a repair that in all likelihood voided the warranty is a deeply unrealistic expectation. Why should Taurus stand behind a repair that it had no control over? You can debate the quality of the gun to begin with, but they are in no way, shape or form at fault for not compensating you for a repair that they had nothing to do with.

Im dealing with it by not buying any new guns.....ever.

I love older guns as much as anyone, but if we as a community buy only used guns, the manufacturers will eventually go out of business. I'll try to buy a new gun every year or so.

I've personally seen Tauruses that were very satisfactory pistols, and I've seen Tauruses that were factory lemons, just not ever quite right.

I've bought three new Tauruses over the years, but using my friends' experiences as a guide inspected them closely before buying (a good practice with ANY gun manufacturer and new guns as well as used guns).

I passed on two Taurus pistols. One was their polymer .45 compact which had a broken firing pin which I discovered by close inspection. The second was a .357 revolver which had a definite drag on one cylinder during rotation.

I pointed out both faults to the store owners. I believe the owner of the revolver sent it back for repair, but I watched the .45 owner put it back into the sales case. Since all flaws can't be discovered through inspection and won't turn up until the gun has had a few rounds through it, I don't buy anything new from that second dealer.

These problems were with two handguns I didn't buy. I've owned six or seven other Tauruses that were solid, reliable handguns.

Just my personal experiences,
KR

Seriously, folks, you think Taurus is any different than Smith for QC? Get a life.

It is a little different. With S&W, customer service is also pretty bad, but QC is a bit better. They only dish out about 1 lemon out of 10 compared to Taurus which is more like 1 out of 2 or 3. Of course, I am just making an educated guess here... I don't know the actual numbers.

Ironically, I was turned off to both companies equally by bad revolvers. The first was a new UL85 that bound up on day one, the second was a new M637-2 that had a canted barrel that I somehow failed to notice. CS was equally bad from both. I decided I would not buy guns from either firm again. The funny part is that my father has 2 Taurus revolvers and a S&W that were all perfect from day one. That is too much of a gamble for me. Companies should inspect and test guns more thoroughly than this. Once bitten thrice shy I suppose.

I have had the best luck with Ruger revolvers... in both products and service.

That to me is interesting...Rugar not being what some might consider a top line gun or company, yet you don't see a lot of cussing about Rugar's guns nor CS. Rugar do have some nice guns....

Lately, yeah, I think Smith is about the same and I hate the frame lock. I've always owned the older Smiths, but they're getting ridiculous on price around here. At the moment, my only Smith is a 60s vintage M10. Nice gun, but I did have to rebarrel it when the forcing cone cracked. That's more than I've had to do to a Taurus. I didn't whine and moan and cry about it, though, I just rebarreled it. I prefer the heavy barrel to the pencil barrel, anyway.. Stuff happens. Still shoots great.

Like jimmy, I just know what I'VE experienced. Reputations and opinions on the internet are worth about what people charge for 'em. They all bash my Kel Tec, too, and, yes Virginia, even my 7 Rugers.

Everyone is entitled to own what they like. I'll buy another Taurus in the future if I decide I want one. I ain't scared.

I bought a model 85. Shot way to the left, customer service is horrible, I will not buy a second Taurus let alone seven.

M94

I bought a Taurus M94 just to have an extra .22lr revolver for target.

What a piece of junk. Sorry I bought it.

A company that can't make a reliable .22lr revolver shouldn't be trusted to make anything else.

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. I've owned one and shot a few more, and all were fine weapons. Outside of the internet people generally seem to have a positive opinion of Taurus. As to the gent who said that one-half to one-third of Taurus products are lemons, I don't see how a company could stay in business with that kind of record.

My Smith lost the fireing pin. I sent it to them and they paid the postage both ways and i got it back in 2 weeks. Taurus 7 weeks and I paid to ship it to them $16.00 Big difference
