I'm looking for a .22lr pistol mainly for a plinker, and a trailside companion. I want a pistol because I've gotten into dirtbike riding and mountain biking and I want something I can strap on and go without having the worries of a rifle floppin around on a sling. Just to use for the occasional jack, or ground squirrel, or a menacing beer can :neener: Just want it to be reliable, minute of ground squirrel accurate out to reasonable pistol range, and carryable for riding mountain bikes. I'd like to not spend a fortune ;) I'm open to all opinions and suggestions! :)
Thanks! :D

Oh I've really been looking at a Sig Mosquito and that Walther P22 I believe. I've shot the Sig and a Ruger MKII but the MKII and Buckmark styles seem just a bit bulky to carry and ride bikes. Would be interested in a good DA .22lr revolver too if I find the right one. But I'm open to all opinions! :)

IMO the Ruger MK series are hard to beat for semi autos and the Ruger Single Sixes are hard to beat for revolvers.
My newest 22 handgun is Ruger's Talo 60th Anniversary Edition MKIII. Beatufil gun.

This was my first outing with the gun right from the factory at about 20 yards.

Browning Buckmark
Sig Trailside if you can find one
Ruger Mark II

My Kimber .22 conversion is pretty accurate on my 1911 frame.

If you just want a kick around gun try the Heritage Rough Rider 22 LR Single Action Revolver, they can be had for less than $200.00 about anywhere, they are reliable, accurate enough for plinking and small critters.

Ruger 22/45
cZ Kadet, or better yer, a cZ75 with Kadet Kit so you have a 9mm and a .22.

This one might be a little too expensive...

All of these are great little guns.

+1 on the Browning Buckmark..... it just feels so good in my hand... that ergonomic feeling allows me to shoot more accurately.... and its a very reliable 22....

Most of the big names and well know guns,

some names have a not so good rep like the Sig mosquito, Beretta neos and Walther P22 have a rep, but it's limited to these models, some say they cut to many corners, it may be true or not,

I like my MK 3, wish it were a 2, learned to shoot on a browning buckmark, and drooled have over a trailside, there are others, really wouldn't turn my nose up at a .22 until I checked it out, many a hi-standard, witney and European .22 were made that you would be hard pressed to find that detail and craftsmanship short of a super class or expensive customized competition gun.

Ruger Single Six is a heck of a great little revolver in my experience.

Then again, so is the Ruger Mk II auto.

God dang that's purdy.

Used Ruger MKII I bought one when the II came out in the early 1980's and I have never looked back. It is great and you would love it. Get a GI belt and a Uncle Mikes hip holster and hit the trails.

+7 on the Ruger MKII. I purchased mine about 3 years back for 100.00 and shoot the hing as often as I can. The only downside is it's a PITA the first few times you try to field strip it.

I'd go smaller and lighter. Beretta 21 - not too expensive and excellent; Walther TP-22 - expensive but excellent; S&W M317 - very expensive and mediocre, and I'm sure there are others. I dislike the NAA mini-revolvers, they are TOO small and for me largely useless.

We have a Colt Huntsman that we inherited. Excellent but they tend to the expensive side. I've been looking at the Walther P22 as the best compromise of quality and cost.

The downside to the Buckmark for me is the safety digs into my thumb while holding on target. I do like to hold nice and high though. No such problems with the Ruger.

One of the shorter mkIII or mkIII 22/45 models would be a winner, whatever fits your hand best.
They're durable enough to get knocked around a little and not suffer any harm.

If you actually want small, the NAA mini-master is about the smallest easily shootable revolver:

Or you could go a size up with "The Earl" from NAA:

You're hardly the forst person to look for a .22 handgun, get with the searching to find dozens (if not hundreds) of reviews of every rimfire handgun ever made.
