I always liked the one that says "Trespassers will be violated."

Agreed. Also, "trespassers will be shot, survivors will be shot again"

I have a steel sign, about 12"x18": "If you can read this, you're in range" Never did put it up, though.

Besides those there was one that said......"Trespassers will be shot, survivors will be shot again"....those are classics from the 70's and 80's

The best signs that you can have is:

BEWARE OF DOG

Post it prominantly in front of your house where it can be seen from the street.

It works because thieves are lazy by nature and want something for little effort. Dealing with a loud barking dog that might attract attention seems too much like work and they will simply move on to an easier target. The fact that you don’t have a big vicious dog is totally irrelevant as they will never bother to find out. I learned this trick from a retired police detective who worked burglaries for many years. He had one of these signs in front of his home and he didn’t even have a dog.

I saw one in Germany that read (in German, but translated to) "Beware of the dog, but if the dog gets you, yell loud so I can watch & laugh"

Saw this one in a feed store.

Large wooden sign
Steal leg hold trap in the set position tacked on sigh
Trap trigger pan painted red
Big red letters read "To place a complaint with management - Press Red Button"

Pawn shop sign years ago:

"I sleep here two nights a week. I shoot first, ask questions later. Feel lucky?"

When I was a kid, a local rancher had a big sign on his front gate with three bullet holes. The sign simply said, "This sign is ranged at 300 yards. Yes, I can hit it. No tresspassing."

Skeeter Skelton's old pal Dobe Grant had one word: Peligro (Danger).

Classics for sure! Just remember that they are HUMOR, and should probably be prominently displayed in your den or reloading room, not on the extents of your property. The last thing any of us need is to suggest a prior disposition to commit violence, especially for trespassing and other non-forcibly-felonious offenses. That could contribute VERY negatively to one's day in court, should the need to shoot ever actually materialize.

Not to be a killjoy -- funny is funny -- but remember to use some common sense.

SAM1911: I 100% agree with you. I have signs in the house, but do not think its a good idea to hang them outside. Also a sign lets people know that you have guns in your house, not a good idea if your out of town. A 70 year old neighbor about a mile and a half from me wrote this on a post next to his driveway. I DON'T CALL 911.

1. "Those who hammer their guns into plows will plow for those who do not."~Thomas Jefferson
2. "Those who trade liberty for security have neither." ~ John Adams
3. Free men do not ask permission to bear arms.
4. An armed man is a citizen. An unarmed man is a subject.
5. Only a government that is afraid of its citizens tries to control them.
6. Gun control is not about guns; it's about control.
7. You only have the rights you are willing to fight for.
8. Know guns, know peace, know safety.
No guns, no peace, no safety.
9. You don't shoot to kill; you shoot to stay alive.
10. Assault is a behavior, not a device.
11. 64,999,987 firearms owners killed no one yesterday.
12. The United States Constitution (c) 1791. All Rights Reserved.
13. The Second Amendment is in place in case the politicians ignore the others.
14. What part of 'shall not be infringed' do you NOT understand?
15. Guns have only two enemies; rust and politicians.
16. When you remove the people's right to bear arms, you create slaves.
17. The American Revolution would never have happened with gun control.

When I stand back and observe from a non-emotional place I really wonder how we have gotten to a place where it is wrong to protect property, life and limb.
All these sound radical today but not very long ago they were understood by the majority of folks. When my father was growing up the towns folk caught a horse thief red handed. One tree on a hill top he was hung there. Do not know if it was his first offense nor how old he was; just know there were no more horses stolen or home break ins while the ranchers worked in the field.

It all started to go wrong in this country near the end of 1791 I guess. Some liberal pansies wrote this:

In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district where in the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defence.

Amendments ... pah! ... who needs 'em?

2. "Those who trade liberty for security have neither." ~ John Adams

There's no record or evidence that Jefferson ever said or wrote this nor did Adams come up the quote attributed to him. Gotta do more than spout platitudes for them to have meaning.

We were looking at property in the Adirondacks, when we came across this POSTED sign. I guess that I'm going to have to take them up on the offer!
