I recently bought a drilling- 16 x 16 x 8X60... Ive looked around on the internet and havent been able to find any ammo. I know its an obscure round, but is it still commercially made by anyone? Any info is appreciated. Thank you.

More information would help. There is at least 3 versions of the 8x60. Do you know if it has a .318 or .323 diameter groove? And if it is the rimmed or rimless version? Some drillings used a rimmed version of the 8x60.

As others have mentioned, rimmed or rimless? Prvi-Partizan makes ammunition for the 8x60 S which is .323 dia bullet and rimless. Perhaps Norma does too.
You should heed Cosmoline's call for a chamber cast and/or slug the barrel.

Take a look at cartridge drawings at Steve's pages, down near the bottom.

Thanks for picking up on the post. So did you determine if it's .323" bore size? You're showing a rimmed case in the drawing, although the stamped size is shown as 8x60 M. Are the pictures worth a thousand words? :)

The company that I sent the chamber casting to couldn't recognize the casing. They supplied me with said dimensions. I did the chamber casting myself. I am not sure what to do at this point. Do the supplied dimensions come close to those of an 8x60?

He suspected someone had tried to rechamber the barrel, but was unsuccessful. Any input is appreciated.

I second NCsmitty's question - rimmed or rimless chamber? 8x60M is a Mauser commercial designation, meaning hotter loaded 8x60S cartridge (rimless). One more thing - this company provided you with C.I.P. minimum chamber dimension and C.I.P. maximum cartridge dimension for 8x60JR(S) - this is misleading. You need chamber, not cartridge specs for 8x60S.

It would seem to me that the face of the drilling chamber would show if the chamber is cut for a rim or not. A chamber properly filled to the breach with cerrosafe should give an indication of the chambered caliber and if it has been altered and if it is cut for a rim.
The specs that the company gave, do not even show a case length that I can decipher.
You may need to have someone else who's experienced in the use of cerrosafe and reading dimensions to shed light on your drilling.
Is the chamber in question smooth?
There's not many 8x calibers to choose from.

I'm on vacation currently, I'll check and give you guys more information tomorrow. Thank you guys for your help. Obviously I'm not nearly as knowledgeable on this subject. Thank you again.

Wiki actually has decent info. for you. 8x60 S . This is to provide you a starting point. You're 8x60M marking is most likely for 8x60 Mauser BUT you need a good cast and measurements to be sure.

Can you get a clear picture of the open breach of your drilling?

You should be able to get some dimensions off your cerrosafe casting.

Looks like you have an 8x60R Mauser; R for Rimmed. Looks something like the bottom example: linkarooni. Same as 8x60S but with a rim. Not to be confused with the Portuguese 8x60 Kropatschek.

Edit: Nice scroll work and the screw is in good shape to boot. Even if you can't find proper ammo for the rifle side, you have a nice specimen.

Since it uses the 8x57 as the startoff point, there just has to be a way of making brass from sibling rounds. There are a boatload of rimmed variations on the 8x57JS. Maybe one of the 9.3 rimmed has close enough base dimensions to permit forming and trimming into shape.
