Could not buy a gun in NJ Thursday or Friday

New Jersey should have a mass exodus taking the taxes their paying with them. I simply can't understand a whole state of people that are letting their 2nd amendment rights away from them. I feel blessed and very lucky to live and have grown up in Kentucky where I can open carry, concealed carry, walk into a gunshop and walk out with the weapon of my choosing when and if I want. I have had a CW for 15 yrs, been stopped by LEO's and never had a problem. They ask if and where I have a weapon, I say right beside me. My weapons always have a round chambered. New Jersey is a communist state and evidently does not think their constituents have enough brains to be able to walk the streets. I happen to agree with them! Its self evident from your laws!

How long did you have to wait for the pistol purchase permit?

"Major Bummer!
How long did you have to wait for the pistol purchase permit?"

I purchased the gun Nov 27th and it shipped the next day. so about 3.5 weeks I had to wait for the permit. I called the PD to make sure they got my references, and I got a call back from the Chief asking if I needed it for Christmas. Told him not necessarily, but I would like to secure it as it has been waiting so long. I had the permit about 3 days later.

I'm not sure if it is the descretion of the local PD or the State PD background checks that takes so long. but it usually takes just about 30 days in my town, which is VERY good compared to everywhere else in the state.

Right on all counts. we have uber-liberal media and legislators. our voice just cannot get heard. there is all kinds of legislation proposed - CCW, relaxed crazy laws etc. just cant get them moved.

Mass exodus - actually, that is happening. I hope to part of the flight next year. Anybody has good suggestions of gun friendly, conservative and good homeschooling states, please let me know!

I had to live in "snakebit" New Jersey for awhile...it took 3 years to rearrange my career priorities and get north to the Adirondacks - for good! It wasn't that the laws in NJ were that much more restrictive (this was in the early 90's), it was just that no one in a position of authority - especially the NJ State Police - paid any attention to the laws!

"Could not buy a gun in NJ Thursday or Friday"

I'd bet you couldn't do it on Christmas day either. That's life.

If it's like Virginia, you couldn't go to the motor vehicle administation office to get plates or do any of that car-related stuff either.

I tell you, it's a conspiracy against honest, hard working Americans. We demand 24x7 catering to our wishes. :)

Could you buy a gun in Virginia last Thursday?

Can you buy a gun in Virginia on a Sunday?

I would bet that more people wanted to buy a gun on Thursday December 23 or Friday December 24 than on any other day this entire past year.

The public servants at New Jersey NICS have their salaries paid by me to be up and running absent an emergency or an official day off.

I took what I thought was a 2-3 year gig in NJ only to end up trapped there for 7 years. I finally escaped and am loving life in Texas. It used to crack me up when I'd drive to Philly. I forget which bridge it was but there was a sign that said, "Philadelphia - America starts here". That sign was more true than they realized. I always thought they should just have the army corp of engineers tow NJ to sea and let it be it's own independent nation. It certainly wants to acts like one. When I first moved to NJ in 2000, the lady at the DMV asked for my passport. I realize this may be commonplace since 9/11 but back then I was rather taken aback. They didn't accept my PA license as ID. All I'd needed to get my PA license was my birth certificate. I told the lady, "last time I checked, New Jersey was part of the United States." I was new then and as such was still rather naive. I left New Jersey largely due to the gun laws. Combine that with the high cost of living, corrupt government, public job creation outstripping industry job creation, and private industry jobs fleeing out of state, there was little impetus to stay.

The census data paints a more complete picture:

I hereby grant New Jersey the permission to secede, unannounced, at the time of their choosing, with emphasis on sooner-rather-than-later, and no immediate or future financial penalty, asking only in return that they keep the disease known fully as "New Jersey" confined to their borde

How about using however many nukes it takes to sever Joisey from the Continental US, then have it towed out into the Atlantic.
If it works, we can do the same with New York.

AS a gun owner in SD, I have never had ANY issues whatsoever.....got a carry permit at 18, relaxed laws, and probbaly FAR more guns than people around these parts. I couldn't wait to "grow up" and move away after college....but had enough experience with the real world by that point that I decided leaving wasn't such a great idea after all

I hereby grant New Jersey the permission to secede,

Unfortunately, the 1865 civil war settled the questions as to whether a state may secede. For lengthy reasons out of scope for this thread, I think that question was settled wrongly, and many babies got tossed out with the bathwater there, but I digress.

Fortunately, the question as to whether a state may be forcible ejected from the union remains deliciously, tantalizingly open.:neener:

It is my opinion that $DEITY foresaw that need, and provided us with convenient geography, so that all we really need to do to quarantine that place is to blow the bridges and mine the river.:neener:

_____________

I couldn't buy one last night at 3 a.m. Does it prove the government is evil?

Yep, I guess I've been infringed. Is that a word?

Whining makes my head hurt. Grown men whining really makes it hurt. Grown men whining and crying is a whole class of its own.

Try TN - brother and SIL homeschool there and find it great. Another is SC

Good luck

In many Eastern states, you can't hunt on a Sunday - they want you to be in church

I filed for a rifle/shotgun permit and pistol permit in West Deptford 3 MONTHS ago, and have yet to hear a damned PEEP from the PD.

I went there today to ask what the hold-up was, and got the run-around. Got a "it's approved when its approved we'll call you" answer. I am right mad.

I retired from law enforcement in N.J. after 27 1/2 years and promptly listed my address to forward my pension as my house in Potter County, Pa. Never looked back. I have waited as long as six months for permit to purchase pistol permits, despite the fact that I was a state law enforcement official. In the communist state of N.J., one must file for the pistol permits with the police dept. having juristiction over your place of residence. Local police consistently ignore the part of the law that states that the permits must be issued or rejected within 30 days. Once my collection reached a certain level, I would purchase pistols/revolvers at various gun shops throughout the state and just have the lgs store them for me until I had enough transfers to make it worth my while to go down the the local police dept. and deal with their bad attitudes, usually that meant I applied for multiple permits about every six months. Sometimes I was applying for a new batch of permits before the last batch came in. It profited naught to inquire, inquiries usually prolonged the wait. When I retired, my wife, my dog and my gun safes went north and I have never looked back. My plan only bit me one time when I purchased a very nice S&W 27-2, 6 1/2inch revolver for the princely sum of $275.00 (about seven years ago) and when I took the permits in a half year later, the revolver couldn't be found. Dealer eventually admitted that he had 'mistakenly' sold it and offered to refund my money. I told the dealer I wanted it replaced, as it was worth considerably more than I had paid for it. After having dealt with this dealer for probably 30 years with countless firearms purchases, the dealer balked and said to me 'I can't believe you would let a couple of hundred dollars ruin our friendship'. Guess you could say it did, but somehow I didn't/don't see how I was the one being unreasonable.
