Picked up a GP100 in 327 Federal the other day. The first problem was getting ammo. When I bought the gun, I also picked up some Speer 115 gr GDHP at $20.00 for 20 rds figuring I'd be able to pick up some Am Eagle for the range. Boy was I wrong. A quick search of all the usual websites and calls to the local gun shops revealed no ammo except the expensive $1.00 a round self defense stuff. No problem, I reload for several other cartridges and we will just get dies and brass and roll our own. I since found out no brass and no dies. Well maybe I can still return the gun. I have shot quite a bit of 32 S$W Long and being that the Ruger will digest all manner of 32 cal ammo, I figured that this would be a great gun for the up and coming shooters in the family. So I decided to keep the gun and become educated on the revolver and this cartridge. I started this thread to get as much info in one place and save anyone else the same hassle. First, I emailed Federal asking when we can expect some new production of the American Eagle 327 Federal loads. It has been 4 days and no answer as of yet. According to other blogs, the 32 H&R mag and 32 S&W Long dies will work for the 327 Federal. I ordered a set of Lee 32 H&R Mag dies from Midway and they are shipping today. Brass took a little looking. The Freedom Arms website claims they have 327 Federal primed brass in stock. Primed with what I do not know. According to the Speer #14 update for 327 Federal load data, factory ammo uses Federal #205 small rifle primers to prevent flowback due to the high operating pressure. I would assume if this is factory primed ammo, it would have small rifle primers. I will ask when I order some brass in the morning. For load data, Hodgdon has had the 327 Federal listed for quite some time and both Ramshot Ed 4.5 and and Accurate Ed 3.5 are now listing data for some pretty fast loads. At the Speer bullets website, an update to Speer #14 lists data for the 115 GDHP that meets the factory fodder. I am going to start with some 115 gr LRNFP bullets from Rim Rock Bullets and Ramshot Enforcer. Plan to start with minimum charge and work up. These are Hardcast so we will see if we get much leading at this pressure. For a 32 S&W long load, I have picked up some 71 gr Sierra FMJs and will work up til the point of impact is close to the factory GDHP.
As for the GP 100 4", I tore the gun down and did a detail cleaning, lubed everything up and dotted the front site with some Tester's model paint. We will see how it holds up to the leather. Thinking about installing some Wolff or Wilson Combat springs but after the cleaning the trigger feels pretty good. At the range, I found this to be a great gun caliber/combo with the the GDHP factory ammo. 4" groups were the norm using an ammo box as a rest. I was sure I threw the pistol rest in the truck. We will see next time after I get some reloads baked. The following is a list of web pages found useful for the 327 Federal Magnum.

Sorry guys, you may have to copy and paste the links, I couldn't get the web tool to work. Operator error I am sure. I am not an affiliate nor do I endorse one brand over another, just wanted to get this info in one place. I am sure once Federal gets some brass out there, the usual web shops will get some in stock. By the way, does anyone know where Federal ammo is getting their JSP bullets? Speer, Sierra and others do not list a Jacketed Soft Point. I would like to see a JSP in both 100 and 115 gr for a hard smacking predator round. As money and the wife allows I plan on trying the Penn Bullets 95 gr SWC and Cast Performance 113 LFN gas checked. I have about a week before dies and supplies arrive so I may have to bite the $1.00 bullet for some range time til then.

I really like this gun!
I am getting very good accuracy at 25 yards using either Federal 327 or 32 H&R brass with CCI small pistol primers, 115 g Laser Cast fp bullet and Green Dot powder (1.25"@ 25 yds). I am also getting good groups with Quality Cast 98g DEWC with AA#2 ( 1.125" @ 25 yds.) - gene

I was momentarily interested in the .327 GP100 - but my 'fun' with my 4" SP101 and 4.6" SS BHG SSM in .32 H&RM was too recent. They shared the same fault - the chambers were uniformally at the upper SAAMI spec limit, and produced .337+" OD brass upon firing - .32 S&WL and .32 H&RM alike. Commercial ammo and my Dillon sizer die produced .334" OD ammo - that .003+" growth really shortens the almost teeny brass's life - some cases got two reloads before ripping. And... my wimpy 115gr LRNFP, actually, .32-20 bullets, @ ~790-800 fps, didn't phase some of the falling steel plates at all. As the bullets and brass had gotten more dear in cost - and less plentiful in numbers/availability, I elected to say goodby - and go back to .38's - and into .22's. I am much happier!

Still - I wonder - what is the OD of your spent brass? I like the GP100's lockwork - and it has 'real' adjustable sights, unlike the SP101's cheesy windage-only affair. Thanks!
