to get a CCW on the VA state police website it says i need to apply in the county of my residence. I live 4 hours away from my legal address is there anyway i can apply and get approved with out the long drive? (besides getting new ID's) If not can i get the whole process completed in one day?

If its a VA wide permit why does it have to be at my local court? why isnt it treated like the dmv where i can go to any of them in the State?

You could try and mail the Clerk of the Court your completed application and fingerprint cards (if they are required by your county/city).

CHPs in Virginia are approved by the judge(s) in your county or city of residence.
That is the in place legal mechanism to have them issued.

What county are you dealing with anyway? In Henrico County, I filled out the application, had it notarized, got my fingerprint card, and turned the paperwork, my DD214, and $50 to the court. 3 weeks later I got a letter in the mail that said to come pick up the permit. So in some cases, it is indeed just one day to apply then one more when it's ready. I have heard other counties do it differently.

Is your address wrong because you moved? Shouldn't you get that taken care of anyway? Or is this college or something?

According to the Virginia code: Any person 21 years of age or older may apply in writing to the clerk of the circuit court of the county or city in which he resides, or if he is a member of the United States Armed Forces, the county or city in which he is domiciled, for a five-year permit to carry a concealed handgun. There shall be no requirement regarding the length of time an applicant has been a resident or domiciliary of the county or city.
By this you should submit the application where you are.
I’m not sure what you mean by legal address, once you move to a different home that’s where you reside which can be different than where you receive your mail.
You can always call the clerk of court and ask for clarification.

i am in college, i live in a apartment and i move every year. so i keep my legal address at my parents house.
A volunteer dispatch operator (he isnt real LE, so he applied as a civilian) at the local pd said he walked in with his filled forms got the judge to sign and picked it up the next day (no finger prints). but he also said i dont need to apply in the county i legally reside in so who knows...
