How does Rock Island have 4 votes and Ed Brown have 5?

Being from Missouri, and shooting an EB before (only once) I have to go with them.
I dream of an Ed Brown Classic Custom............someday I will have one.

After running 150 rounds through my Wilson Combat CQB Compact tonight, my vote unequivocally goes to them with Springfield Armory running a not too distant second insofar as production guns are concerned.

The Wilson is smooth, accurate, reliable, and easy to shoot...everything you ever need in a 1911.

Springfield 1911A1 loaded, when they were still made in the USA. My has thousands of rounds shooting USPSA L10 class with no hick ups, love it love it!!!

Colt's are my favorite, but I have found the Springers to be more reliable, especially with that lifetime warranty. But with Les Baer on the list, I can't honestly vote for either of them. Anybody who voted for something other than the Baer hasn't handled one, they are in an entirely different class than the others on that list, with a possible exception of Ed Brown, IMO.

ZD has posted the most correct answer..."No such thing."

I would estimate 90 plus percent of the votes are based on what the voter owns.

Colt

IF I had the money to try them all I might have voted differently, but I don't so I didn't.

My Colts have worked perfectly for me, I'm sure the others listed are all fine pistols also.

It seems like the Colt is the answer. Does anyone have any experience with their XSE 1911 pistols? How does the Colt XSE series rate in comparison to other 1911's? Also, how does the Colt XSE rate when compared to the Springfield Custom Loaded? Thank you.

38 Super Fan,
They do make some fine pistols (RRA). I probably have around 60-70K through the 45 and gun is still tight and it still groups 1 5/8" @ 50 yds. Heard a rumor Chuck might start building Bullseye guns again.....hope so. I want another one! You couldn't go wrong with a Les Baer or Ed Brown either. (IMHO) gene

Wilson Combat Supergrade.

I have the following 1911's:

Colt
Ed Brown
Kimber
Les Baer
Para Ordnance
Sig
Smith and Wesson
Springfield
STI

And from all of these the Wilson Supergrade is by far the best fit/finish quality and reliable 1911 I own. However I must say the new STI USPSA Single Stack I have has now fired over 2000 rounds and shot in two USPSA matches without the first hiccup. Not bad for a gun that cost a fraction of the Wilson, Brown, or Bare.

My Limited Match and Basic LM have been awesome, I'm no where near that many rounds though. :)

I hope RRA does get back into 1911s, they were great, I'd love to have another LM.

If you are using this poll to choose your next 1911, you are going about this wrong. The "best" 1911 is entirely subjective, depending on your budget, wants, needs, etc. For some people a $400 RIA is the best, since it's cheap and will work great for their limited needs. For others, nothing less than a $5000 full blown custom will do, since they have the needs and the skills to wring every last bit of performance out of the gun, or maybe they just have an unlimited budget and enjoy expensive toys.

If I had to name the absolute "best" 1911, then it would probably be something from one of the various master 1911 smith's like John Harrison or Ted Yost. However, while I dream about them, I don't have the cash. Right now, the "best" for me is Colt. They build a better gun than most of their competitors, and I love their classic style and history.

I've owned 1 or more 1911 from all the top semi-custom builders except SVI. My pick: Guncrafter Industries hands down my favorite.

Sorry for the bad picture but Les Baer 1911's have my vote. Very well made, accurate, eats anything. This one has 15,000 rounds through it as of now. It is not "Baer" tight anymore and the rifiling is showing some wear as is the finish but this is the gun I shoot best. The guns favorite load is a 230g. Golden Saber over 7.4 grains of Power Pistol. Very stout load but it is the most accurate one I have found to date. This pict is a full 8 round magazine at 15 yards freehand on a good day.

I voted Colt, as my two have been flawless. Then again, the only other 1911's I've owned are a Taurus PT1911 and a S&W, neither of which ever gave me any problems either.

The poll is kind of pointless unless those responding have owned at least several models from each of those manufacturers. Otherwise, all anybody can do is pick based on their own experience, which means the poll is incredibly biased.
