I buy small quantities of factory ammunition periodically.

When I get a new firearm, I like to "calibrate" the the gun over a chronograph with factory ammo.

I generally use factory ammunition for my self defense ammunition. Not that I think factory ammunition is better than my hand loads, or subscribe to the legal notions put forth by some experts, it is a small expense to err on the potentially legal safe side.

Occasionally, I use factory ammunition as a source of brass. I prefer to know where my brass came from so I don't pick up range brass. Besides, most of my shooting these days is done at a range where I am the only shooter, it is outside my back door.

40 years, except for 22LR

I buy .22 LR and inexpensive military surplus like 7.62x25, 7.62x39, 7.62x54R etc. I also buy .25 ACP .40 S&W and some other rounds that I don't shoot enough to justify reloading.

I reload .38 Spl, 7.63 Mauser, .30-30, .303 British, 6.5 Carcano, .45 AutoRim, and occassionally .30 Carbine. Especially when I use the .38 Spl, 7.63 Mauser, .30-30 and 6.5mm with Triple 7 in black powder cartridge.

Those experts have frequently (for them) been called to testify in self-defense cases where ambitous prosecutors have tried to make a case by claiming that a defender used unusual ammo or an unusual weapon, questioning their motive. The experts' sample of experiences is very skewed. Most self defense cases revolve around the circumstances (would a reasonable person be in fear of life or limb) and don't involve the type of gun or ammo and most defense attorneys do not have to call a gun expert to testify in defense. Prosecutors who look beyond the justification of self defense (reasonable person test) just to win a case are thankfully rare. But they are out there and it depends a lot on the role of gun politics in a region.

Bought some 22s last week. 1st time to own a 22. for plinking, just a little semi-auto.
Also bought a few boxes of 38 speciels. I got the wife a pair of vaqueros for valentines day. But I had no ammo as I mostly shoot and reload 45s. Looked at it this way. Got 100 rounds of brass for reloading.

I buy the .22 rimfire as needed and LOOK at the high prices of ammo lately when in stores. More to the point for me is looking at and sometimes buying primers locally when not wanting to spend on Has Mat costs. I forgot how long ago I bought any centerfire--I think that 330 rd cans of brass 7.62X54 were $21.00 ea shipped to me IIRC.

I bought some 380 auto after I got my LCP to get some brass.
I buy 22 LR.
I buy shotgun ammo.
Other than that I shoot reloads.

I bought a .38spcl 250 round value pack at my local mega mart because I had just purchased my Ruger LCR and did not have a die set for it yet. I though it would be good to use at the range and then I could reload the brass when I have the bullet and dies because I already have primers and powder. so went through about 150 rounds and collected my brass which looked like brass then I noticed on the box it said "metal case". how stupid of me to not notice that. oh well thats what I get for just looking at the loaded cartridge and assuming that the brass color means its a brass case "not so". lesson learned and thats what i get for buying over priced factory ammo. that all happened about 2 months ago and that was the last time i bought factory ammo.

Since I began reloading the only ammo I purchased was the Hornady FTX 160 g bulletts for my 30-30. I'm told that ammo is awesome for the 30-30 and adds some serious yardage to the shot.

I don't reload all calibers I shoot.

About 2pm. I reload extensively, but I shoot more. I also burn ALOT of 22LR. I have a 25m pistol range off my front porch and my own 400 yard rifle range. Unless I'm out of town, it's a rare evening I don't shoot after work.

Same here too. I just recently like this past Wednesday bought 111 rounds of SSA 110gr Pro Hunters off a guy locally from this forum for $80. It's a reasonable price for 6.8SPC stuff. Plus I should 10 loadings out of that brass too.

Handloader, So I don't have to purchase ammo. I load for CF rifle, CF pistol and shotgun.

Have to purchase .22LR

If it isn't shotgun or rimfire, it is a damn rare day when I buy ammo.

Rimfire, shotgun and 380 ACP are all on the recently purchased list. Other than that, nadda. Shooting hand loads.

About all I buy anymore is collectable stuff (WWII) or milsurp from private sellers. Couldn't tell ya the last time I bought ammo in a store. Recently bought 300+ rounds of Swiss GP11 from a feller.

OTHER than 22 rimfire and shotshells (which i do not reload), i think it was about 2 1/2 years ago, when i purchased several boxes of the Hornady Leverevoloution ammo for my 45-70 and 30-30. reloading rounds is way more cost effective, and usually better accuracy than the store bought stuff.

I'll buy defensive handgun ammo when I find a good deal and I buy other stuff when I need brass. Bought some Silver State match .308 ammo 3-4 weeks ago.
