Many of you know that my favorite gun is either the G27 or G26. They probably represent the ideal combination of ruggedness, reliability, and firepower for concealed carry.

Can anyone out there suggest anything that surpasses or at least matches the G27?

a. It has to be .40 caliber.
b. Legendary in reliability.
c. Ruggedness of the gun itself.
d. Must not be larger than the G27. (may be a tad heavier...but not larger in size)

Glocks come in a new flavor, now, called M&P. M&P 40c is "at least equivalent."

XD40 Subcompact or M&P 40c :p

I'd take either over the Glock any day.

And I'd love to get my hands on an EMP 40.

How about the STI LS40 for meeting points a-d in the original post?

Personally, I prefer the HK P2000SK over the Glock. Just personal preference, though. :)

Colt Gov't Model.

1) better caliber
2) mine has proven itself reliable
3) can be used to beat a miscreant about the head with great effectiveness, unlike a Block
4) is thinner than the Block, therefore it's not larger if one measures the width

Oh and I have nothing against the G27. I'm carrying one right now. But I'm lusting after an EMP. I can't just bring myself to cross the $1000 barrier yet.

The Glock 27 is one of the best handguns ever designed.
10+1 rounds of .40 in such a compact, yet still very controllable package, is very hard to beat.

The Colt Gov't model is way too big and heavy.
And the capacity really sucks for such a heavy and bulky pistol.

Just ordered my first 26.

Thought I'd throw this out there:

That's kind of a moot point since the intended purpose is to put lead downrange, not using it as a clubbing tool. A friend of mine was actually hit in the head with a glock during a robbery. He woke up several minutes later needing stitches. Any of the plastic wonders have steel slides and I assure you that I'm not willing to let anyone bash me about the melon with them. It will disorient you and it is a potentially deadly attack if you're hit in the right spot.

Surpass a G26/27 for carry? Easy, a steel Kahr.
I guess that's the beauty of choice. 8)

I don't think you'll find a constructive argument here, since you pretty much stated you love the G26 series and think it's the perfect gun. I liked mine a lot, too. Good to know you found your gun.

First off, let me say that I feel that there is no "best." Only what we feel is best for a given, specific application based on our own prejudiced and subjective experiences.

Walther P99c

One thing that always struck about the walther's were there resemblance to this:

I like the walther's. They just aren't my choice.

I carry a G27. I have no problem trusting my life with this gun. I also carry it as a 357sig at times (like in the winter when I might need added penetration due to winter coats and such). I practice with the 9mm conversion barrel at the range often, when I want to shoot longer & cheaper. It is a good platform for my CC gun. I do agree that the G29 is a truly superb CC gun. I have toyed with the idea of adding it to my safe (along with 50 other guns!!!).

Walther better trigger, more ergonomic, more accurate and best thing its not a Glock.

I like my HK P2000sk too because I prefer a double action hand gun. Mine has been accurate and dependable.

Walther better trigger, more ergonomic,

Not a fact...simply a preference. Ergonomics are in the hands of the holder and are usually nothing more than a big word for personal preference. I bought a used XDM and felt it was an ergonomic disaster compared to my glocks or my 1911's.

more accurate

95% of pistols are more accurate than the shooters. You likely will never notice a benefit from that accuracy (if it even exists) unless you are shooting on a bench from a mounted device that takes the shooter out of the equation completely.
