Anyone noticed that on many AR15 rifle websites, there are a lot of AR's out of stock. Daniel Defense website has 12 different rifle models and everyone is out of stock. Any ideas on what is going on. This has been several weeks going.

Lots of buyers in the market, all the cool rollmarks are in heavy demand as the public starts fueling the latest fad.

It's trending right into the same thing we saw with 1911's in the '90s, even more so as gunsmithing is much less necessary, and more people can justify the expense as a hunting rifle. Blame Jim Zumbo, he said Americans shouldn't use one, and one thing you can't tell Americans is what they can't do.

More like, 20 million have trained on the M16, and a lot want one, just like Uncle Fred bought a Garand to remember his youth. Can't stop that.

Speaking of 1911's, check Bill Wilson. He's selling them, too. Savvy businessman.

Yes there are shortages. Bravo Company stopped taking orders until they are caught up. Also there seems to be shortages of BCG. Bravo Company had BCG in stock for 20 minutes. I didn't get to buy it in time so I have to wait for the next batch.

There is good demand right now. The basic M16 style Ar15 is becoming a relic as shooting styles and setups get more "3 gun like". And there are alot of folks looking to update their AR's or replace them entirely.

Rainier and BCM are really good about refilling thier stock.

I just wait until it's instock then grab it. I never backorder anything. Backorder=bad, baaad Ju Ju anywhere.

Sometimes Rainiers uppers are hard to find on thier websight. Sometimes thier uppers don't show up under parts->uppers. You have to select Rainer Arms in the manufacturer pull down menu to get to thier stuff.

It's mostly shortages for customized or build to orders, not so much already assembled rifle packages that are "on the shelf" waiting to be sold... as demonstrated above.

BCM and Spikes are smaller companies and do build-to-order quite a bit, not to mention individual parts, and they are just selling off quicker than they come in. Also, they are two best bang for buck offerings, and people are wanting them.

Doesn't bother me at all, I would much rather build my own than pay for a name or roll mark. For the same money I can have what I want in a great rifle.

Yeah, the standard 20" gov't profile A3 upper I want from BCM has been out of stock for a while. They came in stock in January, but after Christmas I didn't have the extra scratch to pull it off. I am on their list to notify me when it is in stock.

CMMG is the only other one I know of who makes that type of upper (20" gov't profile chrome lined with 1/7 twist and flat top receiver), but theirs cost more and the quality isn't any better. I guess I'll just wait until they come back in stock and hope I still have the extra money when they do!

I suppose I could try to find an old Colt or surplus FN gov't profile CL barrel and build it on my own upper, but I am too lazy... I don't feel like putting together anything more than a lower.

BTW, I don't like paying extra for the "cool" roll marks either... I am a fan of buying top-end upper assemblies and putting them on no-name lowers with whatever parts kit fits your fancy.

hensch, I know your pain. I had to wait a long time before the stars aligned--meaning both 1) I had the cash and 2) BCM had them in stock--before I got my basic 20" A3 upper group.

It was completely worth it, though. I'm a terrible shot, but a retired Marine at the range put eight or nine shots into a 1.5" group at 75yds with seemingly no effort or patience. :D

In response to the thread, my... stock... of ARs is thriving rather well, with another one on the way. :)
