Thoughts about GunBroker?

I have had some good luck with Gun Broker. You just need to be patient and decide what you are willing to pay before you start to bid

Selling a gun with no reserve and a one cent start has worked very well for me on Gun Broker.

I research what my gun is actually selling for before I list it to avoid surprises.

I like G.B.

I -was- selling a bunch of stuff on GB, and almost nothing on Auction Arms (basically the same items). However, 60 days ago the GB sales "dropped off the edge of a table" and the AA sales went gangbusters.

Same kinds of items (in some cases EXACTLY the same), same prices, same ad copy, same pictures. It is very odd.

GB seems to offer me nothing. Everything I am interested in is overpriced on GB.

I had a seller SCREW me and by the time I got around to trying to fix it, it was too late. Is there anyway any knows how I can get my GB account back?

Do they? Last time I put something on gunbroker, they didn't charge for listing. They only charged if the item sold. Nothing to keep you from relisting any item over and over and over again. Ebay charges a listing fee IIRC.

The thing to do is to use advanced search and only look at no reserve auctions.

These threads always bring out the people who show off their deals that they've found on gunbroker. I've always wondered how much time they had to spend to find those deals. I'd wager it's hundreds of hours.

Nope, I've landed great deals there and it didn't require even dozens of hours to find those deals. It's about using the search engine, and narrowing down what you are looking at.

It's not that difficult to do. Work smart, not hard.

I think the deals tend to be obscure enough stuff that nobody else happened to be looking, or had money at that time. For example, my Enfauser- I doubt many people were looking for a Turkish Mauser at the time, and of those who did, none had $650 to spend.

The Ebay penny price works well, if you are willing to do a give-away now and then. In the aggregate you do well. On particular sales you will sometimes take a bath. Been there, done that--on Ebay.

If you have only a small collection of good guns to dispose of, you can't afford to give anything away. Therein lies the Gunbroker rub.

Haven't tried selling on Gunbroker. Although I have a membership, I am put off by the constant relistings and the attending clutter: Why would anyone see or notice my very nice custom '94 when "Winchester .30-30" pulls up any number of hopefuls, for deals that will never happen?

Hats off to the guys that start a new rifle off at $0.01 with no reserve. I would be a nervous wreck!

I have listed a few items on Gunbroker but have always listed at a price I could live with if it only got one bid.

When I see the $0.01 starting bids with no reserve I wonder if they have shill bidders lined up to make sure it does not sell for a ridiculously low price.

My best purchase was about 1/3 less than the normal market price

$225 for a gun that usually brings $300-$350

My Dad taught me how to flyfish about twenty five years ago down in Mexico, where he lived on a pretty remote beach, with fantastic surf fishing. His second piece of advice (after the obligatory Don't let the hook snag your ear) was;

Don't fly fish if your hungry. After spending five hours beating up the Pacific before catching my first halibut, I suddenly understood what he meant. So I now use that same philosophy for gun buying----don't be 'hungry' for a particular item, just take your time, enjoy the hunt as you look for things periodically.....then be ready to pull the trigger when you finally see that treasure you've been searching for for months.....

Bwahaha. That's really good: I now have a new wise old saying. Thanks.

I have yet to buy anything on gunbroker. Everything seems to be overpriced compared to Buds gun. Some guns I was looking at were used and more expensive on Gun Broker and at Buds they were new and cheaper costing. Do these sellers ever compare prices? Even on GunBroker sometimes you will look at the same gun from 2 diferent sellers with way diffent prices.

I have no problem with G/B, I've purchased several firearm related items at their site. I do think that some of the sellers need to have their heads examined for the prices they want for their products. I'm also very leary of who I send my money to, so I have some very strict guidelines reg. Internet purchases.

Good point. Bud's has decent prices...on new guns. However, you won't find twenty 30-year old Wingmasters listed on Bud's for under $300 at any given time. I sometimes get very good deals on the older stuff on GB.
