I don't think the stock/sights on my IBM M1 carbine are original as I haven't seen one quite like it in my research. Please take a look and let me know what I've got.

If it's original, I'll keep it as is. If not, I might have some fun with it.

That looks like it has paid a visit to "Bubba" the stock is NOT original, the sights look just like the ones on my marlin 39, and they never issued an "M1 anything" with a jeweled bolt.

Please, don't get me wrong, it is a nice gun, just not original.

That's exactly what I wanted to know. Now I can make a tacky-cool (lol) WW2 rifle without fear of messing up a collectors item.

It's been sporterized. You can find original stocks and rear sights on evil bay, some good deals if you take your time and watch the Carbine items for awhile. It well cost about $125 to return it to GI. More if you replace the bolt.

Probably a Fajen or Bishop stock, and a Williams or Marble's rear sight. Is the front sight original or a sporter style sight?

If you want to restore it to as-issued, you could just have the bolt Parkerized, no need to replace it (and thereby have to mess with headspacing it).

"Back in the Day," it was quite common to sporterize military rifles. I saw many such stocks advertised when I was younger. The rear sight arrangement is a total joke. I don't know how anyone could focus on a notch rear that close to the eye. Such sights are supposed to be mounted a good ways down the barrel. PEEP sights are made for placement on the rear of the receiver because you look THROUGH them, not AT them. Somebody wasn't thinking.

I guess if someone gave me that thing or I got a good deal on it, I would replace the rear sight with an reproduction of a carbine adjustable rear sight from Brownells and leave the rest alone. It is kind of unique. But then, I own an original carbine.
