OK, folks. Based on this thread (thanks, 38snapcaps, for starting it!), here's a poll for you. Counting guns, ammo, holsters, slings, cleaning gear, training courses, range fees, and anything else remotely related to shooting, how much (on average) do you spend a year on shooting?

I think my peak year was upwards of $6K, including training. My current annual budget is around $3K. But budgets were made to be brokent, right? :p

let's see...if add the cost of the handguns + long guns...(whoah, this is already more than i initially thought)...+ ammo + range membership fees + accessories = HOLY CRAP!!!

this is a bad bad thread!

On the advice of my attorney, I refuse to answer the question on the grounds that I might potentially incriminate myself. :uhoh:

All I can say is that it's a good thing my wife is a shooter also, or I might be in a heap of trouble.

From the first thread: "... I want to vote anonymously."

I'm with him. Heck, I don't even want to know what the total is. I'm still trying to forget what I gave for that new safe last spring.

For simplicity's sake I'll just bracket the time period we're looking at...

- In December of '99 I bought a Kimber Stainless Gold Match for $1049.

- I've spent $1606.99 since Wednesday. I sure hope the delivery guy doesn't lose my new Cooper .22 in the snow. It's a gift for my father. :)

Let me put it this way. I took three classes at Gunsite last year.
The course tuition is what ? $1200. Lodging, ammo, transportation, food, pre-class training ammo, and of course you have to buy some trick gear to take to the class.
That doesn't even get into guns, ammo, handloading tools and supplies, recreational ammo ..............................................
Training is definitely my biggest expense these days. I am going to take another three classes at Gunsite this year along with 4-5 classes at Front Sight and maybe a few couple day long classes as they come up. Although before last year, I probably spent that same kind of money on guns/ammo/accessories.

Well, this last year has been the first that I've been able to spend a lot on guns, so I don't know that it really means anything. Maybe we'll see if the total goes up this year. :D

Ast year with 4 gun purchases it was 3-4K usually since i reloaed ammo isnt to expensive but i hadnt bought any guns due to health and not being able to use them .. now im 100% and on a buying rage again

Really depends on the year. For the last 10 years I've been pretty dry from a gun purchase standpoint.

However in 2002 it was:
• Ruger Vaquero .45 Colt
• Ruger Vaquero .45 Colt (yes I bought two of them for cowboy action shooting)
• Rossi M92 .45 Colt
• Mossberg 500 Persuader 12 ga

2003 has been:
• Tanfoglio Witness Tactical II .45 ACP
• Bulgarian Makarov 9x18mm
• FEG P9M 9mm
• Lanber 2097 12 ga
• HK G3 (Century C91), 7.62x51mm
• DSA STG58A Type 1, 7.62x51mm
• Yugo SKS 59/66A1 7.62x39mm
• M1 Garand .30-06
• Mosin-Nagant M44 7.62x54R

2004 so far has been
• Mosin-Nagant 91/30 7.62x54R
• Pedersoli Sharps 1874 Billy Dixon 45-70

Add to that, several hundred dollars of reloading supplies and a dozen or so CAS and 3-gun match entry fees. Don't forget range fees. Basically, its a lot.

Last year's major purchases:
Glock22($400)
Beretta .22LR conversion($315)
Hardwood grips for beretta92fs($45)
6 asian mags for beretta($120)
Parts kit for beretta($100)

Probably $500-600 for assorted ammo and reloading components. I still have 1.5 cases of south african .308 and port left.

Maybe another $100 in misc gun stuff.

Reloaded the last of the 2003 bullets this weekend and still have a couple pounds of powder left.

No plans on another gun... but I will be buying a FAL receiver this summer....(not a gun!!:p)

And of course, another $5-600 in ammo/components.

I spend more money on guns than beer, and more money on school than on guns. :(

Well, this is my first year purchasing guns.

The prices below are approximate. I am too lazy too look up the records. :)

Used Browning Buckmark: $200 (local gunshop)

H&K USP .45: $800 (local gunshop)

Used S&W Mod. 66 .357 6" barrel: $325 (local gunshop)

Steyr M9 (CDNN) $270

Remington 870 express 12 gauge w/ extended mag. M3 light (local shop): $400

Used Winchester Model 70 30.06 w/ Bushnell scope (local shop): $375

Mossberg 500 12 gauge w/ 28" barrel (local shop): $240

Lanber Model 85 O/U 12 gauge (CDNN): $300

Yugo SKS (CDNN): $120

Ammo, cleaning supplies, etc. (most from CheaperThanDirt): $2500

NICS and transfer fees: $235

Range fees and club dues: $150

Total: $6165

Damnation. No one told me this was gonna become addictive AND expensive.

:D

(edited to add range fees and club dues)

It doesn't matter how much you spend. I try to keep things in perspective.

If my hobby was cars or drinking or keeping high maintenance women around, I'm way under what I would have spent!

Time to go to the shop and pick out something new then I guess. ;)

esheato...

If you consider the two gun building classes & fees & parts, travel, motel, food, auto rental, easily $5k a year.

Err.. don't you guys have multiple spreadsheets like I do?

I have my spending sorted by type (rifle vs shotgun vs pistol), caliber, and primary usage.

Sick huh?

I was doing fairly well until I got my C&R  . If DiFi's idea of one gun a month ever becomes reality then I'll probably go into withdrawl. How does one chose only one gun a month? :D

All I can say that in the past two years (having gotten married, supporting two step-kids and adding a new baby and new house) my gun budget has taken some hits! :banghead:

Major aqcuisitions done for a while, it'll be just ammo, competition fees and transportation this year.

Although I'll have to cut down even on those since I quit my job and got back to school to at last take my master's degree. Fortunately there are no tuition fees to worry about...

I'll start 1 Jan of next year and track all expenses, this year is too far gone to bother with. Even though I only buy a couple of guns a year I'm guessing that I spent 6-7000+ last year. It will be interesting to see how much I spend vs. what I sell or win back. If I track ammo usage, I'll have a good value estimate. Sounds way too organized.

Uh, a definitely incomplete list of last year's spendings:
- Enfield No.4 MkI + accessories, 375€
- ammo for Enfield, >200€
- HK SL8 + mag + scope, 1490€
- ammo for SL8, >350€
- ammo for Glock, probably >140€
- club fee, 80€

Total: >2635€

Uh, last year has been a bit expensive.
Well, no new guns planned for this year.

Spent very little new* money in 2003. Will probably spend very little new money in 2004. 2001 was probably an all-time high around $6,000.

I'm guessing the average over the last five years would be about $3,000 and I'm more tempted to round down that round up so $2,000-$3,000.

*New money = items bought from cash not obtained through the sale of other firearm related stuff. :p
