Time to pay the rent. What would you keep.

cyclops is correct.....when one has to sell off personal property to make monthly bills....how long does that put off the enevitable?.....when everything is sold....what ya gonna do then when the rent is due?

Unfortunately, this is correct - it is like trying to put a band-aid on a severed limb - not going to work in the long-run - time to sit down with someone and go over everything to stem the tide - good luck - it sucks, I have been there/done that several times in my life and it isn't easy, but it CAN be overcome

Good luck to you

I'd keep that Marlin. Low round count, and good for anything.

Well if it was me it would be the browning 308. Depending on where you live and if you hunt you might want to consider it.

If I was in your shoes ( and believe me I can imagine....recently went 7 months unemployed after old job downsized....if I was blessed with family and a little luck not sure where I would be).......hunting could become very important...a couple of good deer will really help keep food on the table.....a carry and SD gun just does not seem as practical to actual everyday survival and helping make ends meet......keeping a gun you could actually USE would become most important to me

Sorry for where you are, have been there, but no guns to sell. It does improve, I know that doesn't help right now. Maybe pawn your next favs in case things change sooner than later, if they are close to you, then you get them back. Otherwise, keep the ones that you can't replace, that hold something for YOU. Best wishes

Thanks for the words of encouragement. And, for confirming my thoughts on the SP101. Those of you stating that this will not put off the inevitable are correct. The inevitable is at hand. Hence, the only reason I would sell any of my firearms.

Btw: No way I'd sell to a friend for the option to buy back. Sales are sales. Friends are friends. Of the two, friends are more important.

If you're interested in any of them, keep an eye on the trading post the next few days, or just pm me. In the interest of not derailing this thread, I would prefer to keep offers, etc. to PMs or in the eventual thread in the trading post.

Thanks everyone!

My wife and I both lost our jobs about 6 months ago. Luckily we have recourses that we could ride on, and now I am just returning to work. That aside, we did plan out what our emergency plan was. Ultimatelly, we decided such measures as selling my guns was a very short term solution with no benefit, more easily and effectively solved with p/t work, etc. That totally aside, what do you use your arms for? Hunting, if so what? target, predator control, home / personal defense? Do you carry?
While the handgun is the only one concealable, is this a factor for you? While it could be used for hunting, it is far from the best choice. The 1894 would be a fine home defence piece, and be much better for hunting, the game reasonably chosen. For a rifle it is quite packable, easily concealed in a vehicle when traveling. Any guns in unfired conditions certainly go. They havent been used yet, so probably wont be much in the future. Collectors or novelty or just "fun" guns go- obviously are a luxury, not a neccessity.
Here in NY the hassle and sale return on handguns is so poor I accept I own them for life, so no selling there. Of my 30 odd long guns, it would boil down to keeping a 1894 30-30, 12 g. Ithaca 37 with multichoke and slug bbl, and scoped in line ML. I could hunt anything in my interests, reload them all, and get the best return for my long guns...but only if it came down quite literally to food money.

I would also keep the SP-101 if you really are forced to sell all but one. If you can afford to keep two, make the second one a .22.

Id keep a rifle... If it gets real bad least you can put meat on the table

I have a number of reasons to collect guns. Besides the obvious, to invest in something that won't depreciate, to have something on hand that will gain value if things get bad, to pass something of value on to my kids. The OP is in need of drawing from his reserves. That's what it's there for. I would like the Buckmark :D

Just one to keep? The one you carry every day. That is using it. Of the packable guns on your list, I'd also keep that SP101. Others to consider would be the .357 lever and a .22. The .22 lets you shoot for cheap, which unless you reload, you can't really do with anything else. A rifle is a good thing to have around. But if there can only be one, let it be that .357 snubby. Versatile, packable, practical.

I think I would keep the HK USP as it looks like the best general purpose self defense weapon you have. You could still sell off the extra mags and just keep one or two.

1894

I too understand your situation all too well. Under these circumstances, I would keep the SP-101. If keeping 2 guns then along with the SP-101, I would choose between the Marlin Model 1894 and the Browning Buckmark. Both are versatile, of decent quality, and provide a great deal of utility to any number of situations.

Tough situation. I'd keep the SP101.

As a note to this, I have six rifles and one handgun I purchased from a friend of mine going through a similar situation. He had a problem in the past and corrected it but unfortunately has another actually through no fault of his doing. The first time he bought all the guns back and I am sure he will do this again. Fortunately I am able to help him again.

If you have a CCW then I'd keep the LCP if not the GP, either way I'd try real hard to pick up a cheap 12 gauge since I don't just believe in a hangun for SD

I think the SP101 is the on to keep.

As for selling them: if you're the type to be easily talked down in-person at a gun show (I am) then don't do that to yourself. Go on a gun-craigslist style site like Armslist and get what its worth.

I'd keep the Browning Buckmark. Cheap (and fun) to shoot, you can keep your skill set sharp until you get back on your feet and can restock your collection.
