Do you have a "dedicated" area for handloading/reloading
ammunition; such as a separate room, self-standing metal
building, etc; or do you simply drag all the equipment out
and C- clamp the press to the kitchen table?

In the begining (1973) I used a corner of our bedroom;
that is, until my wife got tired of it! As times got a bit
better, my wife bought me a 8'X10' free-standing metal
building. Now all I need is lights, heat, AC, and a telephone!

In my basement, in a small area that was otherwise largely being unused except for some shelves there to which I had mounted my old Lee turret.

I posted a picture of it a few weeks ago.

I loaded ammo on it for the first time just a couple of days ago, and have already figured out that I need to make a bunch of modifications.

Ah, very cool. Found the picture, so I'm going to link it in...

I built a workbench in the basement. Now, when I want to reload, all I have to do is remove the laundry, iron, dustpan, and Christmas decorations.

Early days .. a section of a huge old workshop ... then pretty much a basement deal ....... until moved to where I am now where I had to improvise a lot in a small and icy ''office'' until getting my new shed and office set up.

Now, have the luxury of a 15 x 12 room as office .. one side of which is safe, loading area etc . and the other half of shed is sorta utility .. model making, gun cleaning etc .. all in all, it's great. Taken long enough to get this set up but it is luxury I have to admit!

Mike has seen it so he knows how lucky I am.:)

Might as well add my pic too .... sorta ''shooter's corner'' :p

I have a Lee hand press right now so I set up in the kitchen, as I'm in an apt. When I have a house I usually have a permanent press mounted in the basement. Good question! S/B moving into new digs in a month...

I laid claim to a 4' piece of property in the basement laundry room.
First kid that moves out loses a bedroom.

My bench is in the garage. I moved here in September and didn't have the money to get $3k of cabinets and workbench like I had at my last house, so I got a bench at Sears and rigged it up, and got the rack with bins next to the bench at Sam's Club. It works great as long as I don't let it get cluttered up! :)

I have three eight foot workbenches end to end, containing all my handloading equipment in what was intended to be my living room. I do my living elsewhere.
My dog Boulderdash doesn't mind at all.

Valkman,

Do you have trouble with your bench shaking when you use the press? I have a similar set up (but with a c press) and have found that the whole bench shakes and doesn't provide enough strength to deprime rifle cases.

I have a workshop along one wall of the basement room in which I store my riding lawn mower and golf cart. I sold the golf cart, so have lots of room for expansiion if I need it.

My loading bench is seven feet long, constructed of 2x4 materials. A sheet of pegboard hangs on the back wall to hold tools and some loading stuff. Overhead is a four-foot fluorescent light that gives good illumination. Two overhead heat ducts provide heating and cooling, dependent on the weather.

My troubled nephew was living with us at the time we were building our new house, so, we made a nice 18'x18' room for him in the basement. Then, he got married and moved away, so, it's now my gun/loading room. :)

Some great reply's thus far folks! :)

I've had the pleasure to see Mike Irwin's set-up
via the internet; and it looks like a nice arrangement
its-self.

Valkman- I'm amazed at your set-up as well.
Very orderly, and looks like plenty of room.

And from Mr. West's description, I believe
he too will be loading for a long time!

And to my great friend Big G, I know your
set-up will be first class all the way. For those
members that don't know Big G; he is a lot like
myself, very methodical! Nothing wrong with
that Big Guy!

Courtesy of what has to be the world's best wife, I have converted a spare bedroom into the "gun room." Has all my reloading stuff, tin gun signs for decoration, etc. No bed, no frilly anything, just guy stuff. The only thing that's not there (it's an upstairs room) is the gun safe.

Valkman - a clean bench is a sign of a sick mind, however, I covet your bench.

I have a home made bench consisting of 4X4 supports, 2X6 framing, 2X4 top support covered with 3/4" plywood. If I ever have a tornado come my way, I getting under it - right solid. This, and my other loading stuff, I keep in a dedicated room in the back of the house (built around 1900, many and big rooms). No pics, not high tech enough for that, yet.

My bench, gun safe, and reloading supplies all share a small back room with the washer and drier.

I started out in the late 60's with a "bench" inside a small closet, open it up and there was a very small bench the width of the door with my Lyman single stage press. A couple of years later I built a heavy bench about 6 ft long in one end of the basement, a small bookcase and an old 8 track display that's full of little compartments, about 6" x 6", nice for storing loaded ammo and components. That bench is still there, loaded down with stuff, including my original press, a Redding powder measure, a 70's vintage RCBS Rock Chucker, and my Dillon 550. It's been around a long time, still works good, needs to be cleaned up, but still very serviceable. :D

I have a 10'x15' room in the basement that I use. It is FULL of crap I mean my gun stuff. I have a lot of stuff and not a lot of room, I need 12'x20' or so...

Hey Mike!!!
I didn't know, however, that Glade made an "Old Man, Bubble & Squeak, and Cordite" scent air freshener...
ROTFLMAO !!!! :D :D

It ain't Glade dude ... it's a special by Airwick ... only available to ''seniors''!! You have to be carded to make sure you are over 55 and .... show your pre 1950 .303 Brit brass!! :p :neener:
