I don't like shooting a 38 plus p and having the recoil of a 44 magnum becuase my gun weighs 12 ounces

A 642 with +p is really not all that bad...

i pack an LCP because i have to deal with other things in my day to day life...like car keys phone, knife, groceries, backpack, work, etc... a full size gun IWB would be too much of a hassle and would get in the way, especially in hot florida

I posted earlier that I don't obsess about size/weight and I don't but, I must admit, if I didn't have a little Kel-Tec P-11 with a side clip I probably wouldn't take it every time I walk out the door. It's very easy/quick to just slip it in my pocket and let my loose shirt cover it up. And having it with me is the most important thing.

"And when I see people like nutnfancy on youtube weighing every gun to the last quarter ounce it gets on my nerves a little."

Don't be afraid, fractions aren't that scary once you get to know them. :neener:

That is because the "average" gun-owner of today is quite different that the "average" gun-owner of just two decades ago. 25 years ago, I doubt that 1 outta 10 folks on the street could've told you what CCW was. The size and weight of their handgun at home was of little consequence to them. Now most of those ten folks are carrying concealed.....and that's a good thing.

Small calibers like .25 ACP and .32 ACP used to be popular for CCW aswell. The internet is a revolutionary tool.

I just get used to the weight and discomfort and keep trucking on. So what is the problem with the weight? Get used to it and keep trucking on.

There's some words to live by. Who cares if there's a way to make things better, just keep suffering until you get used to it. Shoes too small? Just keep wearing them, you'll get used to it eventually. Besides, it makes you a **ssy if you buy something thats actually comfortable to wear, right?

???...why would I ever knowingly go out of my way to inconvenience my self

I agree that we don't need to fret over fractions of ounces, but there is a pretty significant difference between packing a Gov't 1911 and or a PF9 LCP 642 etc..., by over a whole pound. When you are bigger dude in the heat of south florida, those ounces saved really add up

You all are lucky.

Around my ways (NJ), I'd LOVE to be able to carry ANYTHING. Hell, I'd carry a 8 3/8" barrel S&W 44 Magnum revolver if that's all that was allowed.

Reading this thread is making me carry my Springfield Armory Mil-Spec M1911 around my house now for the night, just to see what all you folks enjoy with your freedom.

I have not read all of the responses but I reiterate: Live in south Florida where it is hot and clothing is kept to a minimum; many of the residents are from notheastern cities and scared to death of guns. If you are in contact with the general public go out and try to do business with you hogleg strapped to your belt, in plain sight, and see how that works for you. I keep harping on this because it is a basic fact that we must carry very concealable guns.

When I first started to carry I was packing a colt commander in 45acp.. I love that pistol. And I carried it in a askans avenger. A top of the line holster.
Then I went to a 3 inch k frame as the colt could not be counted on to work every time, all the time. Then it was a sig in 45acp then one in 9mm. Then a j-frame in 357. All in top of the line holsters and good belts. I still have all these handguns. And all are great handguns. I really like my Sigs in 45 and 9mm. work every time all the time.
I must say that my go to guns the most are the j-frame 357 and my kel-tec 380.
So I must say that I like my light easy to pack handguns.
IMHO, bigger handguns are more used by me for in the car or around the house and the light ones are on my person all the time. And that is what is important.
Having it on you all the time. My k-frame 3inch S&W is next to me right now. But it will be put in the safe before church in the morning and the light j-frame will be put in my JBP iwb holster and off to church we go.
Heavy is good but IMHO for me light is better.

I guess I am the exception to the rule. I started with a G-23, went to a j-frame and went through a series of them. Then a series of K-Ts.

I am leaving out the fact that I owned 1911s and larger S&W revolvers, but didn't carry them because I was told that "they are too big/too heavy/too low capacity".

Eventually I learned to quit listening to what other people said, and carrry what I shoot well. That would be steel 1911s and N-frames.

Not as easy to conceal, and not as easy to carry as an LCP, but eminently more uselul as an actual self-defense weapon...IME.

YMMV.

Lighter means you can carry more of other stuff.
Smaller means you have more options where you can carry it.

I really don't see a problem with either.
You mileage may vary.

When I was younger I carried a full sized service revolver every day and it didn't bother me to wear a 1911 in my waistband on my own time.Weight meant nothing to me then. Now I'm old and banged up.I carry a 642 in a pancake holster as my heavy gun or a plastic pocket pistol when I'm feeling like it and am happy.I also prefer a light weight pocket knife for the same reasons.YMMV.tom.

I get what the OP is driving at, but I do not think that most people are absolutely inflexible over things like that. Granted, a lot of the younger tactical crowd flinches at the recoil of a battle rifle and thinks that an AR with JHP ammo is serious hard hitting firepower.
