Took me a while to get it, too, so don't feel bad.

^ Actually, according to a long series of posts in the old packing dot org site, mattresses are the most ND-injured articles in the house.

This, based on the aforesaid long series of anecdotes noted above --admittedly biased conservatively, since only a small portion of folks will admit to the error.

From what I remember, folks come home, go into the bedroom to change, and tend to "clear" their weapons there, especially if there were kids in the house.

Some wag wondered how many of these bullets-in-the mattress incidents were due to hubby coming home early.

There was considerable discussion on the effects, which depended on whether the bullet struck springs or framework, but apparently, most of the bullets ended up in the flooring. There was some discussion on waterbeds, as well.

Just what I recall.
