No holster carry?

I'll carry a snubbie revolver in a coat pocket without a holster. But semi-autos are always in holster -- either a belt or kydex pocket holster.

However, my .02 is, without a holster you have a good chance of the pistol sliding down inside your pants down your pant leg. The result is either a clunk on the floor or a grab for the pistol, ala Plaxico Burris.

Low riding on the belt though does make it difficult to grab the grip without the belt interfering.

A good holster with a good belt should keep the grip of your pistol close to your body.

Sure. Some do. Some folks have always done so.

It isn't generally considered a very good idea for several reasons -- safety, retention, SAFETY -- but you probably already knew that.

Finding a holster that lets the gun ride just where you want can be a bit of a challenge, but there are lots of different options from a wide variety of makers so you CAN find what you're looking for -- or have it made just like you want.

An instructor at a recent Gunsite class showed he carries a backup revolver that way and has for many years.

I have done it and it worried me sick.

Do what is safe and works for you.

I've carried using the Velcro elastic tension straps of a back brace to hold a glock.

But I suppose that just means a back brace can serve as an impromptu holster

Unless you carry in condition 3, it's a bad idea. Even then, you stand the risk of it sliding down your pant leg. Carrying a pistol with a round in the chamber without a holster is unwise - too easy to have a negligent discharge.

The things I carry in my jeans are too valuable to just have an upholstered firearm floating around in there.

Consider what the most likely reaction to feeling your CZ slip down you pant leg would be. You grab it. In that event, the risk of a negligent discharge is significant.

Retention and safety, as previously stated above; are why it is worth the search to find a suitable holster for your carry gun. Find a holster which will retain your weapon even if you fall or tumble over.

I am very wary of carrying a gun without having the trigger covered. I am comfortable depending on a heavy double action trigger for a safety, but not for carry purposes. At the very least put it in a generic slide holster. The clipdraws make me cringe.

I have a clipdraw for my .38. I didnt think I'd like it but it surprised me.

i share your pain the cheap iwb holsters ive tried always ride to high for me to be comfortable. ive taken to carrying small guns in my watch pocket. the right gun rides very nicely there.

I carried a J frame equipped with a "Hip Grip" back in the 80's, but even with that the gun would rotate to an uncomfortable cant, so I switched to an IWB.

I have used a clipdraw on a 1911 commander for over 20yrs in condition 1 and have never had a problem. I have also carried pistols and knives on ocassion in an OSS holster, a stout string in a loop tucked through the belt. Not an ideal carry but OK when you need to UA in a hurry.

By nature I'm opposed to "no holster carry"..

Having said that I have a couple of snubby's as my vehicle "hidey guns" with "Barami Hip-grips" that IF I had to I would feel ok about carrying slipped inside my waistband with the outside "flange" or "lip" slipped over the belt.

I don't worry about accidental discharges as the old snubby's have pretty stout double-action triggers.

In summer I carry my 442 in my waistband with a Barami grip. When the cooler weather comes it goes in my outside pocket.

I've found that when you carry OWB, if you are able to carry the holster pistol between the waistband and belt, you can cinch it to your side as snug as you like. This keeps the rig from moving around, keeps the grip tucked into your side and not poking out against your shirt, etc.
I use an Uncle Mike's pancake holster and find it to work very well. I know it's not leather, but is lighter, more conformal and inexpensive. At a price point around $20 or so, you could replace it every year if you felt it was worn out. Also it allows you to carry it with or without a "thumb-break" retention device. And at this price, about a box of ammo, you could toss it if you find it completely unacceptable. Given an honest trial, I don't think you would toss it though.

I was gonna mention this before "scramasax" beat me to it. I never knew it as an OSS (Office of Strategic Services?) holster, but just thought of it as a variation on "Mexican carry". It can slow down the draw but definitely keeps the gun from sliding down your leg and hitting the floor.

I have one of those, and a couple of similar ones from another maker. They'll hold my 1911s, my P-35 and even my J-Frame or SP 101 quite well and tight against my body. That's what I use when I feel it's too hot for leather. But I have leather holsters (like a belt slide from Bob Mernickle) that work just fine.

I also have a selection of fanny packs and similar belt packs. Some work better than others. Anything with a zipper is a lot slower to open than the ones that just rip open with Velcro, but some of the zippered ones just conceal better. Everything is a tradeoff.

I've done it a few times. Usually its for a very short amount of time and I don't feel like throwing on a holster cause I'm coming right back home. One day I did it for a few hours and it was uncomfortable. I had to take it out of my pants every time I sat down in the car and every time I bent over or knelt down I thought it was going to fall out.

It was comfortable other than that. Didn't pull my pants down or hurt my back. I kept it at about the 6 or 5:30 position. Don't particularly like carrying a handgun up front without a holster. Just makes me feel.....uneasy.

I have a CZ82 that I really like but it is too heavy to carry, as I do, in my pocket. There are many light weight small 9MMs that you can carry in your pocket. They do not print, they supply sufficient power and they are comfortable. I also occasionaly carry my small 9MM in a small belt pouch that can also carry my cell phone. Small, light weight and 9MM are the keys.

I personally like no holster carry.. I pack a cz75 duty with an exposed hammer with the decocker option.. it was recomended by a local police chief, and I was uncomfortable at first..but now I much prefer it. I don't see how its gonna slide down my leg.. and I'm not a thug in a night club(plexico burris)..it's easy to have your gun at your ankles when you wear you pants at your knees!

I carry my P3AT in mt pants pocket. A buddy said that I am a law breaker and it is supposed to be in a holster. Is this true? We are both live in Ohio and have ccp bty.
