I have a potential mount,,{whitetail deer} can't get to the processor for another day,,what do I need to do for it? anything? buddy says if it starts losing hair it can't be mounted??

Wrap it up tight and throw it in the freezer is what I've always done. Had one mounted last year that had been wrapped up for a year.

Hey thanks!,,here's what I found this morning,,details later!

Wrapping it up and freezing it is good but don't salt it. Salt will keep it from freezing and you'll still get hair slip.

Thanks a lot, Kman. I am officially throwing all my mounts in the trash now. In all seriousness, that is a damn fine buck. Congrats.

Yeah, he's a whopper. He's also an old friend,,it started 5 years ago when I first saw him,,nice 10 pointer. He has 20 scoreable points now, and has given me more joy than I can explain. I'm busy tonight but will be back to tell his story later.
Marksman, thankyou,,LOl,,he's in a different class than my other two whitetail mounts too!

That G2 on his left side is SICK! I've never seen anything like it in my life. That is an awesome deer.

I find myself giggling one minute and crying the next,,he's just under 2' inside,,right beam is 26" and the left 28" We green scored him conservatively at 187 non-typical, grossed 193, those bases are 5 7/8" I have his sheds from last 4 years,,he's been a real hoot.

Wow. Where did you hunt him? And no way could you have done that in a barn jacket and blue jeans. To kill a beast like him you need to drop, at least, $1500 on the latest scent lock real tree camo!

Seriously though, that's the deer of a lifetime there.

He's beaten me numerous times, I like to hunt from the ground, and it was getting so frustrating late last season I finally climbed about 30' up. About my 5th or 6th hunt from this location he passes under me and I take a shot, it smacks hard! I'm sure he's moments from falling,,but he never does,,just walks off slowly taking two or three steps at a time. I felt sick,,hopeless sick,,how many shots like that am I gunna get?? I'd never taken any practice shots from that height and it burned me good. Last Sat. we met again,,this time I won. Few minutes before dark he followed 2 does and a spike into a clearing just yards from the big timber. All I can tell is I've got 3 maybe 4 deer in front of me. Big doe and a yearling munching on the thick honeysuckle bush, I glass the area and see a spike in the background,,a second later I catch glimpse of a big head come up and it's carrying a bunch of antler. My heart skips a beat and starts to pound, I'm sure it's him and he's about 50 yards away. The action heats up quickly from here,,and good thing cause the light is fading fast. A moment later they turn the opposite direction and head out across open ground and another patch of woods. He wasn't keen on leaving the edge of the wood line he was already near and just continues to browse the honeysuckle. I sense somethings about to happen and turn around to grab the bow, as I look back he's staring at the herd as they move farther away. A second later and he's head down and two steps quartering to me,,another two steps and he's coming at me. It's at this moment my heart rate just exploded. I freeze and try to focus,,I'm pretty sure this is my deer, the one I've wanted for so long. He stops to sniff a branch, licks it a bit and I'm thinking I'm busted,,he has to see me,,I'm 6' off the ground and only 30 yards away. He doesn't, it's unbelievable, just heads down and keeps coming. Pausing at the downed fence, he carefully steps over and passes behind a large oak while I come to full draw. He takes two more steps and is full broad side, pin on and I release. He takes off down the hillside like he was shot from a cannon, how does an animal that big go that fast down that steep a hill??? I dunno,,amazing. After the shot I stayed put for almost an hour,,felt my way out and headed home,,no rain forecast and I was confident the hit was good,,next morning I found absolutely no blood at the shot site, I had to follow his tracks downhill and up a narrow ridge, he had gone about 50 yards.

kman, thats a buck of a life time! if the cape is bad you can find one to replace it, how will you ever top this brute?

Great job! When you hunt one for a while it makes it realy special when everything clicks in place, looks like your in the right place for nice racks! Im ready for gun season to open here.

I changed jobs last year and found more time to get out so I was on this guy early and often, missed a shot and the season ended. This year I picked back up with renewed interest, had a close call and then the magic evening. It had been seven years since I took a buck,,hell of a "slump-buster"!
His sheds from the last four years,,
