Nope, they load right through the opened action like any other bolt rifle, or you can pull the magazine and load it separately. The normal way is to just leave the magazine in place and load it as if it weren't detachable. There are several advantages to having a detachable magazine - for me, it makes unloading simpler and safer.

The stripper is for reloading fast.

No, you do not need strippers to load them. Cartridges can be inserted in the magazine the same as any other bolt rifle.

Just found out My wife ordered me My "Dream Gun".A Swiss straight pull. She bid on it on GunBroker's.She don't know I know though "found out through some snooping",It is absoultly awsome. She won the bid for a whopping $209.00.She is sending the check to him today,so it won't be long till christmas.I'll have her post pic's since I don't know how.I did notice most gun's in that shape were going for at least $350.00 or more. Can you reload for these?

Congratulations, one of the sweetest shooting rifles out there, very accurate. They are not as slim and do not handle as nicely as some of the early Mausers, but are my favorite among the mil surps. I have 6 of the K-31's, and one 1911 Schmidt Rubin. For once in my life I caught the boat before it sailed and got most of mine for around $70 each. One I paid about double for that, and it was the first I found at a gunshow has a drop dead beautiful piece of wood, flame walnut stock which would probably be a 6-700$blank.

As far as reloading go for it. The Swiss GP-11, their standard military round is almost if not match quality, and is not priced too bad when you can find it. It is Berdan primed so reloading is not easy, a standard decappinng rod in a die will not work as the brass does not have a center hole. I purchased a good supply of Swiss boxer primed brass from Graf's a few years back for possible future use. I did set in a good supply of the mentioned GP-11 ammo for shooting and still have a good stock of that now. Standard 30 caliber bullets are fiine.

One other thing, get yourself a federal C&R license. If you want to buy a milsurp, most can be shipped right to your front door by purchasing on the license. Also a lot of vendors such as Graf's, Brownells and Midway give a discount, basically dealer pricing to C&R license holders. The license is only $30 for 3 years. I have saved more than the license cost with one purchase of a scope from Graf's, so it's a good thing. Acutally it has been 3-4 years since I have used it for a firearms purchase, but will maintain it just for the discounts.

Enjoy!

Congratulations! Those are great guns.

I tell people all the time, "you've heard of Swiss Army Knives, right? Well, here is a bona-fide Swiss Army Rifle!"

They are great shooting guns, and there's quite a bit of reloadable brass in circulation. New factory brass is still a bit pricey, $132.99/100 on MidwayUSA right now.

Or you can go the cheap route, and buy 5 boxes of 20 Prvi Partisan for $72 ($14 /box on J and C right now), it's boxer primed, brass cased, and reloads just fine. :)
