Cycling and Conceal Carrying

For what very reason?

A 65-year-old man shot one teenager dead and wounded another after they pushed him off his bicycle and tried to rob him in Pennsylvania, police said.

The man was cycling on a trail in Reading, Pa., shortly before 11:00 am local time Wednesday morning, when a group of teens pushed him off the bicycle and two of them assaulted him, investigators said.

The 65 year old then took out a handgun and shot them both, the Reading Eagle reported.

I open carry on my bike. Nobody tries to push me off the bike.

I've taken up biking as well, and I now carry a Mk4 can of OC spray with me as well, mainly for dogs. I haven't had to use it yet, but I've had more than one unleashed dog come charging at me while I was riding. Luckily it hasn't happened while I'm stopped at an intersection or anything, yet.

I have ridden many miles with a .45auto in a handlebar bag within inches of my hands. It works rather well...

Could you put the gun in a pouch hanging from a frame tube?
Would that have worked for the guy? I mean if they push you off your bike then throw your bike a distance from you then your kinda out of luck. Unless you see them coming. Tho I couldn't tell if he saw them before hand or they popped out and pushed him from the article.

When I ride my mountain bike I carry my gun in belly band. Takes a little to get use to but not bad. A friend of mine also uses a empty camelback, back pack. If I was riding my bike on the street or in a bad area then the gun would be on my hip so I can get to it easier if needed.

For mountain/technical biking, I use a paddle holster, and have a fannypack with some repair and first aid stuff in it. Works very well.
For riding around town my normal CCW gear, IWB holster and a long shirt, work well for me.
In extremis, I would place my gun and holster in a backpack if normal carry wasn't practical.
I live in AZ, so keep in mind that this may not be practical for you.

I generally use a Safepacker, from the wilderness.com, on a belt. The bike shorts I wear generally have belt loops. (Rapha, Mocean) If not wearing shorts/pants with belt loops, I use a waist pouch made for point-&-shoot cameras to tote a snubby.

Handgun in a fanny pack in front of your stomach. Quick to draw and you have a lot of give there if you fall. If you get pulled off, you still have it with you. You don't want to fall on your hip on top of a holstered handgun. You will limp for a long time. I once fell on a cell phone that was in my pocket. That was enough for me.

Works for me too. Looks like normal mountain bike gear and it's with you if you leave your bike for whatever reason.
