I voted aimpoint, but I like the eotech xps better than both. Either will be great. I just prefer the sight picture of the eotech. I get tunnel vision with tube red dots.

To be completely honest, either one of those would be a solid choice.

In my experience, the Aimpoints tend to have much, much better battery life than the EoTechs, to the point where you can leave an Aimpoint on for several months before needing to change batteries.

On the other hand, the EoTechs seem to have a better sight picture if you have astigmatism of any sort.

Both are robustly constructed, and, if you put the time in to learn them, will serve you well.

Between the two I would choose the Aimpoint for superior battery life & they seem to stand up to real abuse better than the EoTech optics.

should i just wait and save up to get a Trijicon ACOG TA31A 4x32 Scope Dual Illuminated Red Triangle?

I was deciding between the two last year and went with the PRO last year. I haven't regretted my decision for one second.

I LOVE the fact that you just turn it on and leave it on. You can just pick up the rifle and go, just like you are using iron sights.

You can leave the PRO on for 3+ years.

back in the early 70s, we were all proficient, qualified with the iron sights up to 600 meteres (yards), these optics would have made things so much easier.

Should you get a sports car or a dump truck?

Are you trying to go fast or haul gravel?

The Aimpoint is faster at close range and is much more forgiving of unconventional shooting positions. The ACOG will be much better for IDing targets and hitting them at longer range.

They are totally different tools.

The Aimpoint is more durable, has a better control layout, and has much, much better battery life. The EOTech has the better reticle options, and the larger eye box makes it easier and faster to hit with, especially from unusual positions.

If I were kicking down doors and killing bad guys in Khandahar, I'd rather have the Aimpoint. If I were shooting a man-on-man 3-gun match against Tommy Thacker with fifty grand on the line, I'd want the EOTech.

Just hope the EoTeh didn't decide to crap out at that moment.

I've personally seen two Eotechs fail while shooting, the reticle moved than disappeared in both cases. Replacing the batteries did not fix the problem, but removing them and leaving them out for 30 minutes did.

So, if you can schedule you're shooting and get a mulligan, the EoTech is ok.

Brain's post gets to the heart of the matter. The ACOG is a completely different animal from the non-magnified dot and holographic sights.

If you're looking to put together a rifle that's better for hitting things at longer distances, the ACOG is a fantastic scope. However, for shooting targets that are close, it's going to be much slower than either the Aimpoint or EoTech.

If shooting at longer ranges isn't as much of a concern, say, if you want to have the rifle for home defense, then avoid the ACOG and go for the Aimpoint or EoTech.

Thanks, my Ar 15 is only for home defense so right now i am leaning toward the aim point.

EOtech all the way. All this stuff about batt life is for the birds buy a big thing of double a's throw it in your shooting pack and good to go. I have had mine now for 4 years only had to change the batt once. Never had it fail on me.

If you throw your rifle up in a hurry and dont get a proper seat its still always on target. Once you learn to keep both eyes open you can engage MANY targets very fast.

If your really wanting to reach out and touch a target, just set up your iron sights for 500 or so. That way you just gotta flip them up and your set. Cant really use iron sights with aimpoints, or at least not near as well.

I know this is kinda taboo here, but why the hell would you be using a rifle for home defense??? Get a good ol scatter gun with some bird shot. Trust me a 20 gauge with bird shot to a bad guys leg takes the fight right outa him.

I treat the Aimpoint he same way I would irons; it's always on and always ready to go.

If you really need a rifle you really need it now, which is not the time to be screwing around trying to push buttons on a optic.

If I couldn't have the Aimpoint, I'd either use a Trijicon Reflex II or tritium lit irons.

Reflex ll, the return of reflex?!?
My dot optic of choice but a lot of people don't like them, claim they wash out in bright sunlight, are too heavy (?!), lack fine adjustment, etc.
Apparently they have never heard of a killflash lens cover which not only prevents a mirror glare flare from thje objective lens, it also shades the lens and pretty well eliminates "washout"
The 12 moa triangle of the Reflex ll is also pretty darned hard to washout even in bright sunlight, not so with the dots on the original reflex sights, hence, add a KillFlash.
Compared to an RMR, they are pretty heavy, but I don't think my RMR dot optic is anywhere near as durable.
You don't need 1/8" clicks on ANY dot optic, really, get a target scope. dot optics are not for shooting bullseyes at the 50 meter indoor range.

I like my Reflex II but would have to say it's not as flexible nor likely as durable as the Aimpoint.

But if Alien Space Bats turn of the electrons I will still have one functioning optic.

So, you keep a rifle ready to go even in the house?... I keep 3 45ACP's loaded in my house in different rooms, and a shotgun easy to throw into the mix. My AR with the EO Tech 512 is fairly close but not with the power on, I don't find that a major priority since it is fairly easy to hit 1 button on the EOTech...

Yes. It's about 2.5" away right now, empty chamber and a 30 round magazine of 123gr V-Max.

Why would I rely on a pistol when I can have a rifle ready?
