Hey all, planning an AR build and considering 3 different lowers. Assuming minimal, if any, price difference, which would you prefer to start with?

Stag, Palmetto State, or Spikes?

From what I've read they'll all be about the same, but I didn't know if there was an advantage to one over the other

you can get a surplus ammo and arms from karri's guns on gb for around $70 shipped to FFL made by aero precision. They are very nice lowers. The spikes is the exact same lower made by the exact same company I believe and would be my pick of those three, but you would be spending a little extra just for the name and logo.

Almost all brand name lowers (and even the odd ones) are all in spec.

Its rare to get a bad lower, although it does happen

Pick the ones with the rollmark you like or the one that costs what you want to pay.

The trigger is much more important than the lower, any of those you mentioned would be fine. As already mentioned practically any name brand lower you buy will be just fine.

On the other hand the majority of standard triggers you buy in a fully built lower will just plain suck. The RRA with their match trigger is very good though.

Get the least expensive and least offensive lower you can find and install a great trigger as browningguy suggests. Lowers are pretty much all the same, even though some of them go for outrageous sums of money.

Just make sure to stay away from anything that is cast. Forged is fine, but Billet is best. you'll pay a little more for billet, but it's stronger and you'll have the option for ambi controls.

I wish I could afford one of these Spikes combos to do a build, five bills it a bit steep.

+1 on PSA I have built 3 of there lowers for myself and friends with there classic LPK and all run great. No problems at all. Great prouduct for the money.

I haven't seen a cast lower in years, I'm sure there are used ones around. Total junk.

A forged part is stronger than a billet part given the same dimensions. Billet lowers normally are thicker in some areas and have added material. Some billet lowers are designed for propitiatory ambi controls. Normal forged lowers use normal ambi controls.
