Best beast--- Moose, by far.
Best fish---- Wild brook trout, for breakfast by the brook.
Best Bird----- Pheasant, plucked & oven roasted.
Weirdest---- Norwegian Rat,,, We were young & foolish.
Fish, no one has mentioned channel catfish? You can keep your crappie and etc. Speckled trout is pretty tasty, too, and, yeah, I like to grill shark steaks.
I ate curlew as a kid, but I didn't shoot it. It was good, but later I found it was illegal, at least in Texas.
Had to eat a robin when my freind's mom caught us shooing them when I was a kid. I've also eaten ground squirrel it was really, really garlic-y as that was what they had been eating. I've always tried to eat what I have killed, just to see, save skunk and armadillo though my great grandfather called them possum on the half shell which around his place wasn't a bad thing as he would catch possum and keep them in a rabbit hutch for a couple of weeks, feeding them sweet potatoes. I tried that and they were awesome.
Best--from a young whitetail doe-pan seared liver topped with bacon marsala onions.
Best weird--beaver ham steaks simmered in a creole sauce, over grits.
Worst weird--a very old boar coon, stewed wth onions, celery, and potatoes.
But as for regular eating I really do like cow. Deer and most other game is good and all, but I don't think worth the time effort or money just for the meat. Rabbit on the other hand ...
Best: bacon wrapped duck breast with a jalapeño and cream cheese
Worst: raccoon By way of the crock pot - tried to make pulled raccoon sandwiches
Weirdest: I tried to BBQ buzzworm (rattle snake)one time, it had a texture of dried out fish and the smell/taste of hot garbage. Never again
