I'm about to turn 44 - you know what I'm asking!

Or (distant second, but more available):

To me, a gift is ideally something that you wanted but would never have otherwise bought for yourself. If a birthday is just an excuse to by a gun that you think you "need," why, that's as fun as getting...

Socks. :D

I know this is the handgun forum but may I also sneak in a suggestion for a lever rifle in .44Mag? They hit the shoulder with just the right "All Manly" sort of recoil without becoming tiring after a bunch of plinking. And they aren't a bad hunting rifle for out to 100 yards and for the right game. Nice and light in the dense woods if that's the sort of thing you happen to have around your area.

And to get a handgun tie in going again you then have an excuse to pair it up with a Blackhawk or Super Blackhawk.

Or an "off the wall" thought is to go for one of the short barrel S&W's as seen in that thread above. Pair this up with a bunch of speed loaders, a belt and holster and loader holders and then load up a batch of .44Spl like reloads and hit the IDPA trail with The Big Boomer... :D

Well my 44 choice was a Custom built Colt Bisley with elephant ivory grips.

A little pricy - but definitely heirloom

Some things are worth saving for. If I could only own one gun, it would be my Bisley. Its also about leaving a legacy.

You don't have to limit yourself to the caliber = age thing, either.

Once you hit, say, 63, I'd look for a Smith Model 63

32, consider the Glock Model 32, and so on.

This, of course, if you are just looking for an excuse to buy another gun.

Wow that automag in blue is gorgeous!

Ruger has several great 44 cal cowboy guns. Your real question is just how much you want. To spend. Colt has a few dandy 44 /40 SAA's and a limited edition 44 special.

There are a handful of good 44 da revolvers. While I am a Dirty Harry fan, the Redhawk is one hell of a revolver.

Damon 55, I always liked Redhawks and yours is one handsome gun, those grips really make it. It certainly looks like a "birthday worthy" special gun indeed. Though myself, I'd get it in .45 LC and call it an early present for NEXT year....:D

Hmm. I'd get a Ruger Redhawk in 44 Magnum. Stainless, either the 7 1/2 barrel for hunting purposes or the 5 1/2 barrel for more carry purpose.

I'd sure like one in 45 LC too....but the price was right on this 44 mag. I couldn't pass it up.

Here is a little persuasion for one of my favorites. It's been brought up a lot in this thread, but I think a picture is in order.

Loosedhorse - that's an awesome AutoMag!

I love this whole caliber matching your birthday idea. I'm 44 next year, so for the next two years I'll have the perfect excuse for more guns! I just wish my parents had thought of this about the time I turned 9...

I turn 32 this year ... but .32s have never really done anything for me. Maybe I will buy a Kel-tec? ... ho-hum. I can't really justify owning another handgun caliber (I said caliber ... not handgun;) ) when I already have: .22LR, .38, .357, 9MM, .40, .45 ACP. The only other ones I could see possibly ever owning are .44 MAG & .45 Colt ...

When I turn 35 I'll get a couple more .357s ... :D

Back to the OP ... I would go super blackhawk ... It would be a great pistol for a handloader.

AutoMag.... <SIGH>

I'm feeling like a Redhawk is in the lead.
The Redhawk would be a great choice. With three different barrel lengths ( 7.5, 5.5 and the 4.2 inch) you can choose the one that fits your needs. And you'll most likely never wear it out.

I turned 44 in September and got myself a Marlin 1894 lever action . I love it , but I slipped up today and let my wife shoot it. I think I will be hunting another one.

If he waits to buy a Ruger 85 or 97 he'll be too old to enjoy,

Ze,
You're not looking at this right.
Forget the gun, find yourself a set of 22-year-old blonde twins & head for Vegas!
I'm just not following your thought processes here.....
