Would you remove the brown patina and re-blue a pre-WW2 pump action .22? Or would you leave it as is? Not sure what route I want to take yet.

No.

Yes.

There is no "route" to take; clean it up gently, take good care of and have fun with it, then pass it on.

New rule: Unless you are older than the gun itself...

Im of the opinion that if it bothers you the way it is, then refinishing is an option. If your fine with it leave it alone.

Not me, I specifically like that particular patina and have it on a 520-30, Winchester 97 and a couple others.

For those that do not know, the Middle is the Savage 29A .22. The top is my son's Stevens 87B .22, and the bottom is my Sears 101.52772 .22Mag.

Yes, I realize the barrel is welded on the Savage. No, it was not done by me. The guy I got it from said he had it welded years ago because he didn't like how loose the barrel was. It still shot fine up until his son lost the breechbolt. I have recently sourced one so I can get her up and going again. All in all, I should have less than $120 in the Savage when the complete bolt gets here.

That is one sweet trio of vintage plinkers. I too have - without noticing it - built up a pile of old shotguns and .22s that for whatever reason, make me happier to handle and shoot than my modern stuff. Not that I'm giving up on the newer ones as they'll be vintage some day as well... Should I live that long.
