I am a WA CPL holder but it is not recognized by OR or NV, both of which I will drive through on a trip the the Reno area. There I will be staying in a hotel. My main concern is with storage in the hotel. I know I am fine with the gun in the car as long as it isn't "readily accessible". Once I am at the hotel I am in a residence so don't need a permit. What should I do with the gun when I am not at the hotel? It's pretty budget-y; I don't think it has in-room safes. I don't want to leave the gun behind, so I guess I will have to keep it in the "non accessible" part of my vehicle while engaging in my visitor activities. I don't exactly have a target vehicle, lol. Am I missing anything in my understanding of the situation?

Thanks to my time spent here I know that I have a much safer mindset for traveling. I have always been out of the white when traveling, but didn't necessarily know what to be alert FOR. I am definitely more educated now (thanks!).

In NV open carry is an option, no ccw required.
The NRS specifically mentions glove compartment so consider that a good place , however do not keep registration in there or insurance card as it will make life easier for any LE.

As far as Oregon goes, I have no clue.

Have a good time in Reno!

It's funny; I have driven all over the wild west alone or with my kid without a second thought, and have been very lucky. But I feel almost supersitious; now that I KNOW about personal safety I have to practice it. God looks over fools and drunks but now I'm neither.

I never open carry, so I'm a little fuzzy on the specifics...

Generally it's not a problem in Oregon. There is no state law against it. I believe that Portland has a law against it. State law forbids city and county restrictions, but only for those with a permit.

There is a state law against carrying into certain public buildings unless you have a permit.

Some cities have laws about how you can carry. I'm getting a CHL as it over rules the local laws and makes transport less of a legal hassle.

Oregon does not recognize any other states Carry permits. The only state with this lousy lack of reciprocal-ness or reciprocity:) So open carry. When I go to Oregon, I do what ever I need to do, see my signature, I have been label a criminal.

Oregon does allow open carry in a lot of places. Don't sweat it. If you get out of your car and you need your gun, you have a choice to make about the legalities. Open carry or break law and carry with WA permit concealed...which if caught they could take your gun and toss you in the clink with a felony gun possession charge. When in my rig, I have a place I can lock the gun and have the separated the ammo, in under 10 seconds.
I would watch the flex your rights videos and some open carry stuff on YouTube

Also even with a permit there are places you can't carry concealed, they tell you in the class, and in the laws.

I agree with Standing Wolf. And you'll never catch me in that communist country called California.

I refuse to enter a state where Marijuana is legal and guns are not! :what:

Thanks for the comments, guys. I'm not going to break any laws; I just got into guns. I don't want to lose mine already :)
