Improving an Inexpensive Paddle

I've always liked the inexpensive Fobus holsters. (Old G26 holster fits the G23)

The paddle holster works well enough for a product priced below $30, and the retention strength is excellent.

But here in the tropical swamps undershirts are not an option, and the rubber backing on the paddle is uncomfortable against bare skin.

fix = applying a small piece of thin, auto upholstery leather

Glad it works for you, but there's not much good to say about that holster.

Sure might, but at least it'll be more comfortable than rubber sticking and dragging on the bare skin of my waist.

I've worn it a couple of days now, and already I can tell it's much more comfortable.

Is it as nice as my Adams pancake? Of course not.

Does it do a good job for me for less than $30? Absolutely

Depends which plastic holster you tried. Like leather holsters, not all are created equal.

I wouldn't carry a Fobus for every day carry due to their complete lack of retention. But I do have Fobus holsters for all of my pistols because they make great range holsters. Cheap, easy to take on and off, and there is one for most pistols.

Now you have a cheap patched up holster.

Buying something better in the first place might be more comfortable.

I have never seen an accomplished shooter use a Fobus.

I have never seen a Fobus holster user not cuss the holster 1/2 way thru a serious gun class.

Glad you guys still like yours.....

They fill a niche. If you own a handful of guns and don't want to spend $90+ on a holster for each of them for use at the range, Fobus does that well.

I understand just fine. In Post #2, I said I'm glad it works for you, then later, glad you still like it.

But the holster sucks and, to be blunt, identifies the wearer as someone of mediocre skill at best.

That's a little TOO blunt, David. :scrutiny:

And it is untrue. A holster cannot "define" anyone, for good or bad. Equipment choice can suggest things, but only the skill that someone can actually employ defines them as mediocre, excellent, poor, etc. It is presumptuous to assume such a thing, and more than passing rude to say so, merely to sledge-hammer home your opinion.

Enough holster angst.
