Which .22 revolver would you recommend?

I've handled the Uberti in 22LR (Stallion?) in the store and it feels real nice in the hand to me. I was tempted. :)

With patience, he and you should be able to find a shooter-grade Smith K22 in good shape--blued, in 6-inch. Sure, the S&W Model 17 is always in high demand--but that's for a reason. It's the most accurate and best looking .22 LR out there.

The Ruger Single Six is head and shoulders above any other SA .22/.22M on the market. The Colt has not been made in years and they gave lots of trouble when new because Colt tried to beat Ruger on price without using Ruger's manufacturing methods. The hand and the bolt (cylinder stop) were special problem areas. The foreign SA .22s are, in my experience, almost universally bad. Some are full size guns with .22 holes in them, which adds up to one HEAVY gun, folks.

I think your dad already knew that he wanted a Single Six since his description pretty much narrows it down to the Ruger.

The Heritage is a nice enough plinker but it just doesn't compare in workmanship and material choice to the Ruger. And likely at your dad's age he's thinking like me and feels that at this point there's no percentage in buying cheap stuff and making do if it won't prevent putting food on the table and keeping the roof from leaking... :D So let the guy live a little and get the Single Six in the barrel length of his choosing and then buy a nice belt and holster for it.

Actually by that adage I guess that I just suggested that he go all the way and get a USFA model in .22. The only thing is that I don't think they make them as convertables.

Not to drag up an old thread, but I just purchased an EAA Bounty hunter in .22lr / .22WMR and I'm very happy with it after putting about 350 rounds through it.

I'm a Ruger guy from way back and currently own several Ruger revolvers, including a Vaquero in .357 that I'll keep forever.

A few weeks ago, I decided that I wanted an inexpensive .22 SA plinker. After handling a Heritage Rough Rider, I realized that the ROUGH Rider is aptly named. I was not impressed.

I also didn't want to spend nearly $500 on a .22 pistol, so I took a chance and ordered the Bounty Hunter, sight unseen, from Bud's.

Well, I'll admit that it's not "quite" a Ruger, but it's a huge step up from the Rough Rider and at $262 shipped, it's a heck of a lot cheaper than a new Ruger.

Yep, my Bounty Hunter is a heavy, full-sized SA revolver. That's fine with me though, since it somewhat mimmicks my .357 Vaquero in size and weight while being CHEAP to shoot. :D
