I'm looking for a Class 3 dealer in Houston. Specifically one that sells Gemtech suppressors. Can anyone recommend one that is open on weekends and good to deal with.

Also, by chance, does anyone have experience getting a CLEO signature in Brazoria county?

As usual,
Thanks in advance

class3weapons.com sells gemtechs. I personally have no experience with them. The dealer I use is based out of Baytown. Good luck on the CLEO as well. I went the trust route due to living in Harris County.

I recommend S.A.W. out of Sunnyvale, TX but he's at all the larger Houston area gun shows (GRB & Reliant). Best part is only a $100 deposit, then he fills the forms, mails them to you to get signed and and the $200 check. You get a call when the forms come back to him and arrange to complete the transaction with final payment.

Got my Gemtech HVT-QD from him and my Osprey 45, now have a Gemtech 9mm on order. I really like not have lots of money out of my pocket with nothing in my hands to show for it.

What side of town are you on?

Northwest:
www.springgunsandammo.com/ - range attached so you can shoot it while stamp is pending.

www.class3weapons.com/ - not open on weekends

Southeast:
www.thearmsroomtx.com/ - range attached - unknown if gemtech dealer.

www.texastacticalgear.com/ - not open weekends, make most of the gun shows though. unknown if any gemtech in inventory.

Southwest:
http://www.houstonarmory.com/ - not open on weekends as far as I know - huge inventory.

West/Katy:
http://tacticalfirearms.us/ - range attached - lots of inventory.

Contact Sean Cody, he is a specialist in setting up trusts.

Getting a CLEO signoff is so restrictive and such a PIA I honestly do not know why anyone would even consider that route anymore.

I got my first Gemtech from Republic Arms.

Collectors Firearms handles suppressors now, and does not have a paperwork charge. They had the best prices in town on AAC when I purchased my TiRant last year.

Texas Tripods and Feeders in Spring handles suppressors also, good folks over there.

All I'll say is that any dealer who charges you extra to fill out an ATF form is ripping you off, especially when FFL/SOTs who don't do that are a dime a dozen here in Houston.

CleverNickname, well a lot on the list above do and will charge you fee to bring in stuff they don't have in stock.

Forgot to add, AJC in Katy also handles suppressors.

I'm not talking about using an FFL/SOT to transfer a firearm bought from someone else. I'm talking about an FFL/SOT selling someone a title II firearm they have in stock, then charging extra to fill out the form 4. A form 4 isn't any more complicated for an FFL/SOT to fill out than a 4473, but you don't see anyone selling title I firearms and then charging extra to fill out that form.

but you don't see anyone selling title I firearms and then charging extra to fill out that form.

Yes, you do!

CleverNickname, don't know how much of this stuff you handle, but that is not the case.

I just called Class3 firearms in Houston, because I know that they carry Gemtech, and they were the first mentioned in this thread.

Price quoted for an in-stock item (they have 2) the Halo, was $750. Plus tax, plus their $50 paperwork fee, plus $200 tax stamp was $1,066.

I have not talked to Art at Republic Arms in a while, but I know he charges a paperwork handling fee also.

So yes, check with the dealer you are interested in, they are not the same. Most charge MSRP for everything, and a lot charge for their handling of the paperwork while others don't.

Who charges extra to fill out a 4473 for a title I gun?

As for SOT's charging for NFA paperwork, my point is that someone who buys from such an SOT is paying extra money they don't have to, considering the vast majority don't have such a charge. If an SOT needs to raise their prices to make a bigger profit or whatever, then they should raise their prices, not tack on some lame paperwork charge.

How would I know, we are talking about NFA paperwork, not the regular stuff. Why bring that up? Not in the scope of what the OP is inquiring about.

I agree completely..................

considering the vast majority don't have such a charge.

I disagree, there are a lot out there that do. "Vast Majority" would seem like an extremely high number, like 90% or so, and I have shown you two close together.

If an SOT needs to raise their prices to make a bigger profit or whatever, then they should raise their prices, not tack on some lame paperwork charge.

They try to sneak profit in anyway they can.

but you don't see anyone selling title I firearms and then charging extra to fill out that form.
However my point is that your previously stated belief (quote above) is blatantly false. I proved it to you that some do charge that.

Now I don't have the time or inclination to go call all these folks listed above and continue to argue with you on the point, when you don't even consider that your position is false even in the face of proof.

To the OP, this is something to be aware of, ask when you start your buying process with a dealer. Find all the hidden fees, as there are those that do not charge them, and some that do. Also be aware that calling around the dozen or so dealers in Houston will probably net you a good idea about those that are strictly MSRP and those that will give you a break.

The best thing the OP can do is get the exact model number he wants, and call each one and get the total drive out price before making a decision. Having item in stock will save you time, but you are still looking at 6 month wait before you get your can in hand.

Good Luck nosmr2, and let us know when you make a purchase and any details that might help others. (Get in touch with Sean Cody, he will probably hook you up with some folks on that can you want if you go the best route of a trust.)

I bring it up because it's roughly the same level of effort on the FFL's part to complete a 4473 as it is to complete a form 4. And since it's roughly the same level of effort, if some FFLs are charging $50 to complete a form 4 on a title II gun they sell, then it would follow that there should be some FFLs charging $50 to complete a 4473 on a title I gun they sell. But there aren't any such FFLs. There's at least 15-20 C2s and C3s in the Houston metro area, and if only two of them have such a charge for form 4's on items they sell then there's little reason not to choose one of the ones who don't have such a charge.

However my point is that your previously stated belief (quote above) is blatantly false. I proved it to you that some do charge that.

No, you listed two dealers who charge extra for the paperwork on title II firearms they sell, which is different from a dealer who'd charge extra for the paperwork on a title I firearm they sell, and who as far as I can tell doesn't exist.

Dude you are the only one talking about Title 1 firearms. ***??? The OP is interested in NFA items, as he stated. No one is arguing with you that we don't know of anyone who charges for filling out a 4473. Your logic that the two types of paperwork are the same is ludicrous.

Geeze, I am done with you. There are more in town that charge for the paperwork, so get over it. However if I show them to you, it probably will not change your mind, so what is the point? I can keep proving you are wrong until I am blue in the face, however you will probably be not capable or able to accept that.

Have a good life.

Thanks for the responses. My CLEO would not sign my form 4, asked before I went through the paperwork. He is up for reelection, no surprise there. I did manage to find an attorney that will do the trust at a very reasonable price. He said he doesn't make any money on it, just doing it as a favor to a friend that sells suppressors. I'm not tied to his friend for my purchase, just would be kind of nice, I suppose.
I will be sure to ask for a final out the door price when I start making calls or sending emails. One guy I have spoken to nearby does charge to file the form 4. The Arms Room, real close to me, charges $100 for a Class III transfer.
But I think I have enough info here to find a dealer within my price range.

Be sure to vote against him and consider sending a contribution to his opponent!

OP,
Try Tactical Firearms on Mason Rd in Katy, or AMSS on Jones Rd in Houston. I've had personal dealing with both these shops and both have been exeptional in their pricing and paper work on NFA items.

In case anyone was following my quest, here is an update. I called several of the vendors listed as well as checked their web pages. And went with none of them, though I sincerely appreciate the input. I just couldn't find the right one for me. One place wanted money for processing the paperwork. Another location, "the largest silencer dealer in the nation" had 3 .22 suppressors. I got prices on 2 of them, over $400 and the other price was a ballpark estimate. The sales rep did not seem very knowledgeable. They do offer a free NFA trust and file the paperwork. But for that price, you are really paying for the trust anyway. Another location wasn't open past 5 or on weekends. One guy totally misinformed me and said my CLEO would not need to sign my form 4, but write a letter instead. Though he did offer to get me a trust set up for $300. I almost went with S.A.W. and just drove or met him at a gun show whenever.

However, I was doing some searching for "NFA Texas Trust" and about 5 pages into the search ran across a different forum listing an attorney that would do a trust for $99 (the basic trust) to help out his friend who is a dealer. The dealer is near San Antonio. He had some nice prices on Guardian .22 suppressors, starting at $200 as well as some other calibers. The attorney got my trust setup pretty painlessly and I mailed him a check. He said he doesn't make any money off a $99 trust and spent quite a bit of time with me on the phone discussing the details. Whether he does or doesn't, I don't know, but I think i got a good value for my $99. I spoke to the dealer over the phone today. They have the suppressor in stock and can make the sale, except for delivery of course, over the phone. I emailed them a copy of my trust as well as a form 4 the attorney filled out for me with the name of my trust. Once they receive my check to BATFE for $200 I will pay for half the suppressor and they will mail my stuff in.
So all in all, I think I got a good deal. The only downside is the 4 hour drive to San Antonio. My car gets good mileage and the wife loves the riverwalk, so maybe I will make a weekend of it.
Thanks for your input. I know I've learned some stuff I didn't know when I began this process.

And I will not be voting for my CLEO that wouldn't sign my form 4. I would like to put a sign of his opponent in my front yard. But more than likely, he wouldn't or won't sign either. So screw it.

I think I know who you're talking about and I'm glad you didn't go that route. There have been a few lawyers who have raised doubts about the overall legality of that arrangement and I think we can all agree NFA firearms are not something you take chances with.

I've heard talk about this but I don't think it's become law yet. Just something that's been kicked around a little.

Anyway, glad you found what you were looking for at a decent price.

Glad things worked out for you...
Now the wait begins!:D

I, too, am in the market for a new can, and have looked around a bit...
I have an LLC in Brazoria Co. that owns my other NFA items, so that part is already taken care of...

The guys at Hou. Armory have the can I want in stock (AAC TiRant .45), but the total out-the-door price may be more than what'd cost me to get it from someone else, not local, and just pay the transfer fee, shipping, etc.

MajorMalfunction in OK comes to mind...

I do need to decide before the wife decides the money would be better spent on something silly, like clothes, or food...:banghead:

nosmr2, if'n ya would, PM me the info on yer SA guy, please...
