I recently traded some work and a little dough for a nice Model 28-2 Highway Patrolman. This rig for a 4" Colt Python was the trade part of our deal. As I was going along dying a few different belts edges I got about 3/4ths of the way finished dying this belts edges brown and accidentally dipped my dauber in the black dye on the table, by the time I caught my mistake it was to late. After emailing the customer with updated photos I asked if he wanted me to precede as is or start over. He not only told me to go ahead with it, but to finish it as I see fit. I used a black antique and am quite happy with the results of my mistake

This is quite possibly my favorite and/or finest rig to date, guess every dog has his day.

I hear you, those look great. I used to use brown for the edges on my brown rigs too until I tried black on one. Now all my edges are black.

Real nice work, Rob. We chatted last year, and sorry to butt in, but I had some good luck soon after. I didn't make it, but I did dye it. I was thrilled ;)

That Black edge adds a very nice contrasting 'finishing touch' to the brown leather.

Thanks for the compliments all.

I'm happy that it worked out for you - gotta stick your foot in the door somewhere! I'm not sure if you sealed the holster or not, but if you look in the 'arch' below the trigger guard there is a track from a sewing machine foot. If you ever happen to get it wet stick your hand, or the round butt of a tool into a plastic bag and gently rub. Will take it right out without burnishing the leather.

Rob I don't know this leatherworkers lingo, but I understand the part about leather sealer. I did use the net recommended shoe stuff. I also found and dyed the little one. Its a Bucheimer and was not nearly as easy to get right as the new 3 K's.

I hate to tell you this, Rob, but that's not a mistake. That's a "redefined objective". :D
That black edging looks a LOT better to my eyes, than brown edging.
I'm a brown leather fan and that black edging is very, um, edgy. (In a very good way).

If that's an example of your "mistakes", you can make holsters for me ANY time.
I like your work. You should be proud.

I'm in need of a flap holster for my ROA. How much would one cost me? Not looking for anything too fancy. Well made and durable are my prime interests.

So, where can I get a custom, silver Python with on-board wooden cleaning rod, like yours? ;)
