7625 for 115 fmj practice rounds. AA-7, fed mag primers and 124 xtps for more umph.

HP38/W231 is my workhorse 9mm powder, VV N320 is my luxury 9mm powder. I keep both on hand for my .380/9mm loads. The HP38/W231 gets use as my primary .38/.357 powder too so if I had to pick one powder to have on hand that would be it.

I tell ya, I use mostly 124/125gr bullet for my 9mm loads but a few weeks ago my son bought a few hundred 115gr Remington FMJ bullet and asked me to load them up for him. I used a charge of 5.0gr W231 under those 115 FMJ bullet and he said they shot great... He did mention they felt like they had slightly less recoil than the factory Remington 115gr UMC ammo but it was close. They were accurate too when shot from a Kel-Tec PF-9.

With a 124gr LRN bullet I load a charge of 4.0gr W231 which is nowhere near the Max of 4.4gr on the Hodgdon site. With a 124gr FMJ bullet I charge 4.6gr which again isn't the Max of 4.8gr on the Hodgdon site. Both loads make great practice range ammo.

With a 124gr JHP bullet my favorite load is 5.7gr Longshot, it's a stout load...

My plinking and competition loads are with w231,My warm loads are with unique.Unique is a little dirty but its not to bad on the high end of the specs.
I use these two powders for everything except magnum loads. Then I switch to 2400.

I recommend you start with Bullseye, since all pistol reloading begins with Bullseye. Some people think it's dirty, but they're wrong. Bullseye is clean if you use it correctly. I have a hundred pounds of fancy powders and keep going back to Bullseye.

I have never heard this, ever. The variety of answers amazes me. Pick a bullet manufacturer/type and then find load data for that bullet. There are a variety of powders that will work in most handgun cartridges.

How did you like #2 vs 231?

I like HP-38/w231 better than AA#2 under 124gr FMJ and plated. Using AA#2 groups weren't tight out of my guns until I got into the 4.2gr range. When I got the groupings I wanted I wasn't satisfied with the feel/recoil impulse compared to HP-38/w231. AA#2 is supposed to work well with LRN but haven't gotten around to trying it yet.

I love everything about AA#5 though and will be replacing BE with #5 for 124gr & 147gr FMJ, plated and LRN.

HP-38 is still my go to powder for 9mm though, wife likes the smooth recoil of AA#5.
