skribs We all have our favorate.

I hate full sized pistols for CC . You may carry a full size pistol.

What this person should do is all common sence that will more than be fine tuned with time.
Working stiffs that sweats for a liveing, keep it small. Pocket carry more than likely and under 16oz loaded. Don't wear much, the same gun types here. Wear a coat and tie for a liveing and you can keep your pants up most any full size will work. Can't keep your pants up ,think compact light weight iwb from 14oz to 24oz. That should be common sence. Go to a gun shop and have the staff there help walk you thru the pistols and how and wear to carry. See who on these forums my be close enough to shoot some folk handguns Doubtfull many get it right the first time.

To make it easy to start see what fits your front pocket from a 10oz 38sp small revolver or 8oz 380 pistol to one of many 9mm or 40cal sub-compact size pistol. There will allways be an occation for the ultra lights down the road if you deside some bigger is just right.

Maybe this is a bit better. There is not perfect handgun or position. Its all trial and error.

I have guns and holsters I carry for CCW in four calibres, .380ACP, .38 Special, 9mm, and .45ACP. Which one I have on me depends on what I'm wearing, and where I'm going.

I take back what I said in my earlier reply.

Think outside of the box, and... are you ready for this?!...

THINK INSIDE THE GUITAR CASE!!!

Yeah!

Desperado.

Do it. Do it.

(nah... I stand by my first reply)

For me a S&W J frame Airweight in a Mika pocket holster is my everyday carry.
I do not mean to offend you but 50 years ago alloy-framed Colt was state of the art and cylinder held SIX cartridges. Your gun only holds five. Nine mm subcompact Glock can be reloaded with 33 round magazine designed for Glock 18.

Easy answer: The best CC handgun is one that you have extensive experience with, is as close to 100% reliable as is possible and you can get it in your hand, aligned to target and fired (if needed) in that split second when it matters.

Trick question. There is no universal "best." Rent multiple platforms and pick the one that shoots/feels best to you. I narrowed it down to xdm, m&p, and glock in 9mm. I went with the xdm because it felt the best to me.

That's why I said "for me", I didn't say for you. I will not list all the reasons I don't like semi-autos and especially a Glock. (unlike what you did) My five rounds are just fine since I don't practice spray-and-pray shooting...

You need one or more that complement your dress and weapon handling preferences so that you can consistently carry it with you and effectively employ it in a self-defense encounter.

That conclusion regarding 5 rounds contradicts what has been covered in the thread: Thoughts on Multiple Assailants, Hit Rate & Capacity

I'm trying to keep it on The High Road but...

Threads with data are fine and people thinking they need 17 rounds of ammo plus 2 extra mags are also fine for them, but not me. I'm getting very tired of all the armchair warriors who read forums for their information but have no real world experience. I refuse to carry a high cap semi-auto because someone or a lot of people on a forum tell me I should or I will die. I will continue to carry a revolver and if I get killed because of it you can come back to this thread and say you told me so, until then leave me the hell alone to carry what I please and you carry your semi-auto and 52 rounds of ammo! All the ammo in the world will do you no good unless you make good hit...

I'm done with this thread and threads like it. I can't compete with people who think they know everything but in reality know very little. Worse yet, they refuse to consider someone else might be right and they are wrong. It seems there are a lot of people who read something and then regurgitate it to sound like everyone else thinking that makes them sound smart. :banghead:

I better stop right here before I go to far and end up on the other side of right.

The data is from real world experience. Is or is not real world experience of worth?

There's a reason that to study history, so that you learn from the past rather than be doomed to repeat history, as the quote goes.

I have carried NAA autos for ages in .380. I was never happy with the .380 but knew that I probably wouldn't carry anything heavier or bulkier. If it's not there when you need it, you're in a world of spit.

I found a gun store that had a Kel-Tec PF-9 in stock, held it, squeezed the trigger and was so delighted with the light weight, low bulk and the easy trigger pull, I bought it immediately.

I have not regretted my decision.

What's the best concealed carry handgun?

1. What's your price range?
2. Is there a specific brand that you like within that range?
3. What's your caliber preference?
4. Go to a shooting range and try out as many of the guns in your range as possible. If you like guns that the ranges don't rent such as older/newer/less available/less popular guns, sub-compacts, etc. then you're going to just have to rely on your research and trial and error to pick something.
5. Which of those guns fit your hand the best, shoot the best, feel the best, are the most reliable(in your research and on the range)? Are you recoil sensitive? Do you have any other requirements or limitations?
6. What's your favorite mode of carry?
7. Which gun(s) fit that mode the best?
8. What sacrifices or adjustments are you willing to make to your wardrobe in order to carry your preferred gun in your preferred way?
9. What sacrifices/adjustments are you willing to make to your choice of gun(size, weight, caliber, construction, design, etc) in order for it to fit your current wardrobe?
10. Are you limited by your environment as to what you can carry and/or how you can carry?

I'm sure I left a lot out but it's not a question that someone other than you can answer.

Best concealed handgun:
The following:
A Bob Munden .45 SA revolver, Ruger, done by Bob Munden, with him shooting it.
He's also pretty good using a 2" snubby at 200 yards. So, pretty much anything he picks up. Doesn't help you, except to understand the limits.

http://www.bobmunden.com/see-for-yourself/video-gallery/

.475 Linebaugh, SA, in Lee Jurras hands. JRHuntington would use the .500JRH in a SA 5" barrel.

Jerry's M.s .45 Colt S&W revolver.
1911 in Todd Jarett's hands. That leaves a ton of options for a CCW.

Other's are going to give you a laundry list of factors.

I would start by looking at what your state allows, and then look at the thread linked to earlier. Capacity is a good thing if your state allows.

It's way too complicated a question without knowing a LOT of information.

For me the best ccw is a 8 shot 357 magnum.

Easier to conceal than any semi auto, untucked polo shirt all day dealing with bending over, kids crawling all over you etc.

Safer with kids than any semi-auto, my oldest son cant pull the trigger back, simply isnt strong enough.

Harder to shoot myself in the jimmies with a revolver than with a semi. The pressure from my belt prevent the cyl from turning. Safety > all.

I agree completely and will add something else. I personally think it might not be smart to carry 36 rounds on you. I have read plenty of opinions on how shooting someone with a handloaded round can get you in hot water with a prosecuter. Well, I wonder how the media and prosecutors would look the average Joe that had to shoot someone in self defense but had two "high capacity" evil ammo "clips" on their belt.

Don't get me wrong, I see nothing wrong with it but I know how the media can be. I will go with what I believe to be the safest carry mode. And in a lot of ways a revolver fits the bill perfectly. Very very little chance I will need more than 5 rounds. If I do happen to get in a SD situation where I fire off 2 rounds, I would rather not have to go through the questions of why I had 36 rounds on me. The bad guys family could take that and run with it and make you life miserable.

5 rounds are enough for me

Okay, here are my two cents.

A handgun choice, whether for carry, range work, hunting, etc. is a Very personal thing. What works for a thousand other folks, may not work for you. Take the Glock for instance. I hold nothing but respect for it, and those that carry one, it just does not work for me. The Ruger SR series, on the other hand, does. As well as the S&W M&P series. Not, repeat, not, saying one is better than the other. Just saying one works better for me than the other.

I routinely carry a full size Ruger SR9 or a CZ 83. Depending on... And I had to sell my beloved EMP 9 to make a long distance move. A Kel-Tech P3AT, a Taurus 709, and a S&W M&P Shield 9 will be added to the rotation shortly. A friend carries an XD .357 Sig with a P3AT as back-up. And another friend carries a 5" 1911 with three extra mags. Yet another only carries a Bersa Thunder .380 if he leaves the truck. I've heard rumors of a Python within reach. But only rumors.

What works for me, or them, may not work for you.

As far as holsters go, I can only recommend two through personal experience. Both were Great to work with and had fair pricing for a more than quality product. These two guys will be first on the list. The rest are others I've found here and there.
