I really want the Ruger Gunsite scout. I am a small guy, 5"5" weighing 149lb and ther rifle feels perfect for my size. I also like the .308 as a real stopper and a very good hunting round for big game animals.

I have a Marlin 336 in stainless which I am hoping to trade it in for. I don't need 2 "brush guns". The only reason why I have the Marlin is that I use it as my long gun when I scout for animals. The ONLY reason why I would like to keep the Marlin is because of how it feels and shoots. I am quite proficient with it with open sights.

Keeping both guns is an option but I am at the stage where I feel that I would only want to keep the guns I can shoot often and proficiently. I would like to master the guns I keep.

i like the ruger scout as well... more accurate, longer range, better bullets can be used too since youre not stacking them in a tube magazine

stainless 336's are not too common. If you are proficient with it and its a good shooter, I would keep it, AND get the Ruger. It shouldnt be too hard to be good with that one either if you learn the open sights as you did on the 336.

I would keep the Marlin. Bolt actions come and go, but a stainless 336 made in the original Marlin factory is forever. New 336 rifles are Remington-made.

OK, you guys. I didn't know the MArlin in stainless was a difficult rifle to come buy. Alright, I will keep it. I might have to save up for the Ruger. Thanks for all your responses.

Definitely keep the Marlin. After you get the Ruger and the newness wears off, I'll bet that you find a use for it.

I like the Ruger also. But I would not get rid of my only 30-30 to get it.
^
I would keep both. You may regret letting go of the Marlin years from now. If you don't HAVE to trade to get the Scout, I wouldn't.

Yeah, keep the lever gun. I shot a friend's Scout; good gun.

Don't sweat the size issue. I started centerfire with a 1917 Enfield. I was about 5'-10" and weighed about 125 pounds. That steel butt plate danged near beat me to death! :D

Fun, though. Looked sorta weird, though, wandering along with my blue shoulder...

What about the new Ruger American? Going for $350 I believe and they have a .308 version.
