Guys,
I'm going to look at a .38 special smith revolver today. The guy says it's a "685 c8"... I'm not able to find a reference to this anywhere. Apparently it is a blued .38 revolver with a 4" barrel. Anyone know what this might be?

The first number 6 in S&W revolver model numbers stands for stainless steel. 5 stands for blued.

I wonder if it is a 586?? I think the 586 was only in .357 however...?? Any idea what the "c8" reference could be to?

If it is blue then it should be 586. The 686 is stainless steel. Both are in 357 Magnum. I am not aware of a special run of 586s in 38 Special. I am not saying it is not a special run just that I am not aware of one in that configuration.

I'll gamble that it's actually a 65-8.

Just checked, bad bet - the last "-" change before the 65 was discontinued was the "-7".

Still a loser.
