I picked up this SP101 in .357 about ten days ago after a long wait for it arrive at my LGS.
It was purchased mostly for range use by my wife so I added the pearl grip inserts from Altamont.
I hope she gives me a chance to shoot it too. It feels great. :D

That's not nice. Besides General Patton was probably thinking of only the men who carry guns.

I expect he would give a female who favored pearl a pass.

Ta daaaaaaaaaaaa........... Congrats! enjoy! It's a good choice. Yikes............ I'm drunk! Merry Christmas!!!Q!!!! :D

Good shooter! You'll be happy!

Now that's some good ass whiskey typing if I do say so myself!;)

Merry Chriistmas!!!!!

Patton got fired.

Nice revolver, she will love it! What's the double action like, I recently read an article on a sp 101 in .22 lr and the da trigger was reported as terribly heavy. How's the da trigger pull on that one?

I like the grips and the gun.
Congrats, I've been shooting mine for over 17 years. One of the reasons I like Rugers: they have a tendancy to shoot "smooth" instead of "loose" over time.

This is only our second revolver, the other one being a S&W Model 19, so that's my only real point of comparison. The trigger and hammer seem a bit heavy, but very clean. This gun is tight, in a good way. :D

I realize the pearl grip inserts may be an acquired taste, but they look and feel w-a-y better than the stock plastic ones. While the gun overall looks and feels great, the stock inserts really cheapened it up, IMHO.

My father-in-law, John Fotheringham (late this year), toured europe with Patton, and happened to be the one on duty that took the dismissal message.

As it was marked "for Patton's eyes only", he had to hand it to him in person.

As John told the story, he recalled listening to his own heals "crossing that ballroom floor" -- they always took the nicest place left standing in town -- "passing through the guards, and getting Patton out of bed".

No mention was made of Patton sleeping with his revolver.

Patton got fired when they no longer needed a hell for leather assault driver. He was no politician, but for driving forward kicking ass I put his record up against anyone. No one was in much of a mood to go to war with the Communists. He and McArthur had that much in common, even though they despised each other.

Nobody cares what Patton thinks about the OP's revolver that the OP purchased for his wife.

Glad to hear the DA trigger isn't too bad. I'm interested in a SP 101 in .22 LR. Hope you guys have a good Christmas~

I like the SP101, wearing mine today.

As for what other people say, My dad used to say, " When you pay my bills you can have a say."

Ruger triggers are easily lightened up if you know how to do it. It is not done by dropping a light spring kit into it. Ruger's DA revolvers have funky triggers simply because they don't seem to think there is any good reason to de burr their frames and parts. They leave lots of garbage in there. Stuff that will slice your fingers open. Rough bearing surfaces on the trigger parts. Clean all that stuff up with stones and the trigger becomes much better (even with the factory springs) Another thing I have always disliked about Rugers is their triggers have sharp square corners on them that will chew on your trigger finger when doing DA shooting. Radius those corners and polish the trigger face out and it is MUCH more user friendly. But a S&W will always have a nicer DA pull just because the geometry of the parts is completely different. A S&W can be adjusted to amazing lightness in DA and still retain 100% ignition with most brands of primers. With Federal only primers it gets even better.

I don't like the pearl grips, but if the lady does, it's her gun.

I like my SP-101 a lot. And it seems hard to find one, esp. with the three-inch barrel. It's the smallest .357 that I'd even think of buying!

And the smallest that I'd consider for general purpose work, if concealment was a prime consideration.

Patton was an egomaniac, but his book is worth reading. "War As I Knew It."

Thanks for your comments and tips guys.

I figger we can change the grips or grip inserts out easy enough if need be. The stainless just looks right with pearl or ivory inserts IMHO.

I think the grips look 100x better than the black plastic inserts that they originally come with.
Very nice gun - happy shootin'!

Follow-up...
After a trip to the range, we decided to upgrade the grips to the more practical Ruger rubber monogrip. Range report to follow.
