What model gun is the most popular carry gun

J Frame for sure.

People will take classes with semi-auto's knowing that it qualifies them to carry both semi auto or revolver, whichever they choose.

I would guess the small .380 class of weapons would be next.

I know there is no way of knowing the answer, but just for fun, what gun would you guess is the most carried model? Exclude LEO and military. Lump all 1911s together. My guess is a Glock 19.
I would agree with you on the G19. It is one of, if not the most popular carry guns. Proven caliber, excellent size, and great capacity. Hard to go wrong!!!

While I have been through 4 firefights, all were with a 1911 as a police officer; I find due to my laziness in old age I tend to carry J Frame Smiths (in 38 and in 357) although I find a Kimber Super Carry Pro comfortable to carry. While Glock's are very popular there have been numerous ADs and self-inflicted gun shots with the Glocks (mostly by COPS).. but for the average Joe (or Joaney) I suspect the J frame is probably the most popular carry gun overall. Many women cannot operate the slides on semi-autos

I carry TWO S&W j-frames (Airweights). Fastest reload is a second gun!

Might be regional as someone suggested; but could also depend on demographics. Of the people I know with CCWs, I can list 2 S&W 36s and one 60, a 1911, a HK P2000, another HK (P30, I think), a SP101, a S&W model 10, and a compact XD. I live in a pretty rural area with many multi-generation families and a more recent inlux of retired folks. I mostly carry a Colt Cobra; but sometimes a Sig P225.

Of the 4 people I know that carry none carry a glock.

one carries a sig in .40
one carries and XD9
one carries a 1911
one carries a SR9

I carry the following: S&W SD40 in the winter and a Taurus Pt111 in the summer. I have been known to carry my 1911 at times as well.

As a matter of fact I do not personally know a single person who owns a glock.
You are one rare bird. No contact with Glocks at all?

Fun to plink with but not very practical, I also vote a J frame .38 airweight.

in my circle of friends, one carries a J-frame .38, one switches between an FN 9mm and a Sig 226 9mm, one carries a Colt .380, and one carries an XD9, and I carry a S&W 9mm.

Not being a smart ass, at least not intending to, I prefer to carry the one that I'm most practiced with. Right now, that's a XD9, but I have to admit, it is a little heavy with 15 in the magazine, so at some point, I'd like to get a hold of the XDM S series.

I'd have to go with the Ruger LCP. When I meet someone who carries, that gun pops up the most often. Second would be the Glock 19.

I regularly carry a Kahr PM40. I have yet to meet someone else who carries a PM40.

In recent times (last 5 years) it would have to be the one that sells the most - the little 380. More people buy one of those than any other.

Jim

I just got my breakfast at the local gas station here in rural VT. No one knew that I had a Glock 17 on in an OWB right side holster. By the way, a local bank was robbed on 16Jan13. I guess that crime is everywhere . . . .
