More coverage from this years SHOT show. A Century Security officer demonstrated the importance of trigger discipline and Col. Cooper's rules when he gave an impromptu exhibition for a few folks on the brand new tile outside the freshly remodeled business center at the Sands Expo Center.

Who knows? There were rent-a-cops all over the place along with hotel security (who are also armed) as well as 50ish LVMPD officers patrolling the grounds.
I know there are always a few people who go get plastered and start some trouble as well as a few kooks. Usually the hotel security is on them with the quickness and whisks them out of sight and off the property. Only event I saw this year was some lady yelling something that didn't make a lot of sense and trying to push past event security. They ended up having to cuff her and turned her over to hotel security or Metro and that was that. No real drama other than someone shooting holes in our floor.

There are at least a few people who get busted for trying to steal something but that happens at every show that comes through here. Just so happens that if you steal the wrong thing at SHOT, its a felony.

That doesn't look like much damage. Where'd the round end up? What was he carrying?

I think they may have replaced the tile already. The Sands Expo is right in the middle of some pretty heavy renovation so all the material is on-site but in that spot, it is just some good commercial tile on top of concrete. A lead bullet isn't going far.
I think the circular part may actually be the base of the bullet. Looking around, I didn't see any fragments but the area was swept and mopped asap.
I'm not sure what he was carrying. Most of the security officers I saw had Glocks but I have no idea on the caliber.
Perhaps I'll tell everyone it was .45ACP just to add fuel to the 9mm vs .45 debate.

Treated the gun as if it was loaded. Pointed the weapon at something he was willing to destroy. Nothing at risk behind his target.

What's the problem here?

Also, we have no idea what the floor was doing before getting shot. Might've been justified -- we don't know.

Lotta people around here quick to judge who've probably never been in a threatening situation with tile before. Lotta people who, frankly, don't have to deal with tile on an everyday basis; they can afford hardwood or carpeting.

Some of us aren't so lucky.

Tile's made me slip, stumble, even fall. One time at a bar a bunch of tile rushed up and almost knocked me out.

Point is tile can be a real problem and we can't judge the security guard's actions until we know more.

Sure you're not just saying that because the tile is dark?
Sounds a bit racist to me. :scrutiny:

Looks like the 4 rules worked. You have to violate 2 of them at a time for something really bad to happen.

He needs to work on rule #1...keep your booger hook off the bang switch.

The word from hotel security is that no charges were filed and no fines issued from LVMPD. Not sure about discipline from his employer Century Security though.
but yeah, I'd say a little refresher course might not be a bad idea.

At least the security guard heeded the "Caution Contents Hot" message and was not injured.

You know, I am starting to believe that maybe we cant be trusted with firearms.

Holy cow, this is just ridiculous, between all the gun show accidents (dont bother correcting me), the school security guard who left his pistol in the bathroom, and now this?

*sigh* It's hard to dispell the anti's fears with this going on. It's actually hard to deny them.

I'm still trying to understand what this guy was doing, but you certainly can't trust lots of the people carrying guns now a days. Very sad! I hope he gets more training or a safer gun, or both.

When I was 14, my mother always told me to keep it holstered, if not, she handed me some protection. I was shocked. She referenced the firearm and damage it could cause if not handled properly, and with respect. I thought it was a fitting analogy, actually, years later when I bought some firearms.

Some lessons in life stay with you for life.

He's not going to need any additional training where he's going.... MANAGEMENT!
