What does anyone else make of this:

I order some PRVI Partizan .222 for my father-in-law the first week of Dec '12. Expected delivery was to be just before Christmas.

I get a follow up e-mail stating that that it is back ordered until 1/28/13 and according to FTC regulations they are required to see if I still want the order. Because of the free shipping coupon and cheap price I reply yes. This is after Sandy Hook. Explain it to the father-in-law at Christmas. He doesn't care. Still has some and they're for his Stevens o/u .222/20g.

Receive another e-mail on the 17th, again due to the FTC. Same question with an expected shipping in April. Once again I reply yes.

Now comes the e-mail on the 18th. Order is shipped!

I have some ammo on back order with Midway since late November, don't they have the same FTC regs to follow? Never got an e-mail from them. Or was Sportsmans Guide trying to get me to cancel my cheap order so they can gouge someone with a new price due to the times? :scrutiny:

I've always likes SG, but I'm starting to look at them in a different light.

Went through similar with Sportsman's awhile back. Kept getting emails that my order was delayed, finally I gave up and cancelled it after several months of waiting. Their in-stock stuff ships quick, usually a week or two, but back-orders are problematic.

Yea, I've done the back order thing with them before. Just thought it was strange about the e-mail on the 17th. Just prior to the shipping one on the 18th. I've never cancelled an order if the price was right. Just got ammo elsewhere til it came in.

Have been a customer of SG since the 80's....I have recv'd the "Federal Trade Commission" enquiry abt shipping dates, several times over the past several years. No Biggie. I have bought a TON of stuff from them over the years, and never had any issues with them. If I had something I didn't want or there was an issue with it, NO problem...they sent a UPS pick up label and took care of the issue to my satisfaction.

I know there is a guy on another forum that claims he's been doing the form for an SG order since 2009...he's seeing how long it can go.

My apologies to Gary Olen....

......for doubting him. Checked the website later on after posting. The price is the same. Must be some sort of auto-electronic shipping/receiving/accounting thing. Like Loc n Load above, been shopping there since the '80s. Never disappointed. I do sometimes miss the catalogs when the warehouse workers were the models! :)

I had back ordered ammo at SPG just before the previous 2009 panic/shortage. Sure it took a long time to get, but eventually I got it, they honored the original price+shipping, and didn't charge my credit card until it shipped. What more do you want if its not in stock?

If prices had gone down and/or availability up, I'd have canceled the back order but that didn't happen so I was happy to get the ammo I ordered, despite the long wait.

I received two letters and a e-mail about the FTC thing. I Replyed by phone and e-mail to let the order stand until product is available. The e-mail was yesterday and my acct said ship date of may 1. This AM SPG withdrew funds for the order and ship date went to day of order (12-24-12). Checked product on website and out of stock untill 5-6-13. So do they hold back some stock just in case or are they trying to get you to cancel so they can resell at a higher price. Have a Maadi kit on B/O till 3-4-13. Hope it goes the same way. deadeye.
