Hanging on today.

Our state house will be swarming this week with selfish politicians and their ignorant supporters who hate us and want to take our rights away.

Please send some prayers our way. Only God and a complete psychic change regarding our personal security and preservation can stop this draconian onslaught.

The next thread will probably be about good hiding places.

As I mentioned in a different thread Obama coming to MN to me was a sign that the gun law proposals are a shoe in. No other reason for him to pick this state other than they believe they have it won.

Like other states we are being crushed under the will of the urban population. The folks that are more than willing to let government control everything in exchange for handouts . Kathy Lohmer was the only rep that wrote me back with a personal message and invited me to come to the meeting and speak. She is completely on our side of this issue. Unfortunately I am disabled and in the process of being hospitilized ,making it impossible for me to attend.

I've done all I can to stop it by writing represenitives, etc. Most gave me a BS canned response that sounded like it came out of Obama's mouth.

I hope we can find a way to stop this attack on the constitution both here and in America as a whole. Everyone has to work hard to find ways to counter these socialist traitors.

If you go the route of New York, you'll wake up one morning and your gun rights will have already been taken away, like a thief in the night. That is precisely how they passed our draconian SAFE Act, with little or no time for public input or debate. That is why we're called the Empire State.

One thing politicians fear is being voted out of office - their version of "YOU ARE FIRED!". Many Democrats/liberals are probably fearing some of them maybe be voted out in the next election. :D

I know I may never be able to change the minds of some politicians but when I have some free time, I send them the "kind and gentle" reminders that if they do not represent the will of his/her constituents, they will be voted out and be replaced. You never know, it COULD happen and it has in the past. ;)

They know the support for gun control is falling and fear is a great motivator. Add to that fear some firm/regular reminders from "HIS/HER" constituents ... we may see more changes/outcomes than we anticipate.

We need to stay focused and stay the course. I tell people this is a long-drawn out war we are fighting ... I am all-in for the long fight, until we win.

What are they proposing? Do they have bills filed already?

It's ugly. I've never seen it uglier. And the DFL (Our Democrats) have control of both houses and the governor's mansion.

HF 241: Ban on 'assault weapons.' I won't list all the specifics, but it's bad. Start at the '94 AWB and just add more restrictions. Illegal to transfer, manufacture, or possess. Violation is a FELONY. Grandfathering only by registration requiring a fee for registration and fee for renewal (unspecified, of course, and up to the chief of police). You must have 'safe storage' for the 'assault weapons,' and be ready for inspection at any time, like an FFL dealer. Grandfathered firearms cannot be transferred, so when you die, the guns must be turned in to law enforcement for destruction.

HF 242: Ban on 'high-capacity magazines' holding more than ten rounds. Ban on possession, sale, manufacture, or transfer. Violation is a FELONY. NO grandfathering. Turn them in, plug them to ten rounds, or remove them from the state.

HF 298: Virtually all gun laws changed to allow 'local units of government acting to further a clearly stated public safety purpose and achieve a clearly stated public safety outcome' to establish their own gun laws.

Essentially, state preemption of local ordinances about guns would be over. All the sections of our carry law that clearly state that government officials do not have discretion with regard to permit issues are now modified to include the aforementioned exception. So now local municalities will have the ability to regulate licensed carry.

HF 307: Chiefs of police will now be the permit application point. The section allowing chiefs of police to contract permitting to the sheriff's office is removed. A cynic might note that this could be because the sheriffs are more supportive of concealed carry than the chiefs of police of the larger cities.

Maybe that happens in Iowa or Ohio or Texas. Not in Minnesota. >.<

All those sellers on Gunbroker who have refused for years to sell to CA buyers in protest of the bad laws there... they are going to start running out of places to sell.

Good luck in MN. But it is a left leaning state.

I have already made plans to move away from here,
For my childrens sake, I must hang in there another 4-5 years until they graduate high-school, but after that Im looking for a more gun-friendly state

If any of those bills get passed, I guess I will be an outlaw then !! :cuss:

Fourth Amendment – Protection from unreasonable search and seizure.

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

I too am thinking I might have to leave this state if this comes to pass. We have made strides in the last few years here with shall issue CCW and such. I just got my CCW last Friday. Now it looks like it was a waste of $100. I finally find a hobby I can afford and enjoy and now it might be taken away. It is just sad. I have sent more correspondence to all state and federal lawmakers again today. Not sure how much it will do especially at the state level.

When I make my twice yearly trek from Tx to the UP of MI, I take I35 to MN then over through WI. If this passes, I will have to bypass MN like I do IL. At least I can still go IA to WI then north. Bummer....chris3

Isn't Al Franken a Senator for MN that barely won his election? The guy is typical idiot actor.

This doesn't surprise me because MN gave O his vote with all the union support up there.

I will not bother to inventory the entire catalog of our current DFL representation, but here are few nuggets. True, Senator Franken barely won, by about 400 votes, and there were about 4000 votes that went missing. Senator Klobuchar is funded in part by the same guy who is currently caught up in the Menendez prostitution scandal. Governor Dayton is a millionaire drug addict who keeps his wealth in tax free South Dakota. ALL of these facts are public record.

In many ways MN politics is like Illinois, except we have that "Minnesota Nice" thing.

I know we don't like to talk about politics here, but we cannot escape the fact that our politicians are pushing the buttons that control our lives. Perhaps the day of the modern militia is coming sooner than we wanted. Sorry for offending anyone.

I just got this response from Erik Paulsen's camp -

Dear Michael:

Thank you for letting me know of your thoughts regarding the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.

Like you, I was saddened and angered by the murder of these 26 innocent people, including 20 elementary school children. As the father of four daughters in school and the husband of a teacher, I was shocked and scared by this tragedy and recognize the pain these parents are feeling as they attempt to cope with and understand the loss of their sons and daughters.

In the wake of this tragedy, we need to come together in Congress – and in communities across the nation – to study what is needed to make our schools and neighborhoods safe and prevent similar atrocities from occurring again.

Despite this heinous crime, I remain a strong supporter of our Second Amendment right to responsibly bear arms. Instead of just targeting the legal right of law abiding citizens, we should find new and better ways to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill. I also support increasing awareness of mental health issues and looking at ways that we as a community can better support families raising children struggling with mental illness.

Thanks again for sharing your concerns, as I appreciate hearing from you. Please let me know whenever I can be of assistance.

Sincerely,

Erik Paulsen
Member of Congress

This is one of the major reasons I hate large cities. Let them have their individual laws, leave the suburbs and rural areas out of the mess cities create.

I hope things go well for your state. I've already contacted the politicians in my state concerning this subject. I'll protest at the capital for sure if they try anything here.

Sorry to hear they're cramming this crap down your throats.

You guys should march on your capital this Friday, for the national protest. Maybe if you get enough gun owners together, it will at least open their eyes a bit, to how many people they will be alienating with this.

My most recent letter, I know it doesn't cover everything, but it covers some of it, and what I think is the most important. The spacing got mangled when copying and pasting, but it's late, and I'm done editing.

Distinguished Representatives,
I’m writing you in the hopes that you will take the time to heavily weigh the hugely important decisions you will be presented with this week, and in the near future. I am a Minnesotan, born and raised. I was born in St. Louis Park, raised in Minnetonka, and currently reside in Plymouth. I am the oldest of four boys, in a family that has not always had the easiest path in life. Unfortunately, I have seen violence in my lifetime, and I have had the unfortunate responsibility of having to defend my family in the face of very real danger. At the age of fifteen, I was forced to go toe-to-toe with a former professional boxer and abusive drug addict in defense of my single mother. That was the first time I ever thought I stood a good chance of being seriously injured or killed. Since that day, on multiple occasions, I have dealt with multiple potentially explosive situations.
My life experiences have opened my eyes to how helpless and alone a person can feel when they have already dialed 9-1-1 and the danger has yet to pass. This is why I’m urging you not to limit the constitutional right of the American citizen to keep and to bear arms. I have been lucky enough to survive the situations I’ve faced, many others are not as lucky, or as strong as I. It cannot be for you to decide how people deem it best to legally protect themselves, their families and their homes.
I own guns, as does my father and many other family members. I have never committed a crime with these firearms, and when not in use, they are locked up in my home. I am a law-abiding citizen, and will do everything possible to make sure that I stay on the correct side of the tracks, but I urge you not to create more rules and more criminals out of responsible Americans.
Sandy Hook, and other tragedies like it bring a whirlwind of emotions out of everyone. I remember watching on that day, absolutely horrified and in disbelief that someone could commit such an atrocity. As details have emerged after that day, a picture started to form of the person who killed those innocent children and teachers at the school. This individual was clearly someone who was suffering from mental illness and whose treatment was completely lacking.
New gun laws will not stop these sick and deranged individuals from seeking to harm others, but it will seriously and unconstitutionally rob the rest of us of a freedom guaranteed by the founders of our great country. Please, please don’t legislate out of fear, don’t fall into the trap of changing things because it feels like the popular thing to do. Please remember why our founding fathers thought this right, among all others was important enough to have as the #2 amendment to the constitution.

A nice little suggestion. Unfortunately these are becoming very hard to enforce.

Every time I want to contact my rep, I'm forced to realize that she sponsored a bill to stop CCW, and then after it was passed, she sponsored a bill to reverse CCW.

I've always said - Minnesota is the state where - if something stupid and expensive is proposed, it will be passed into law with almost no hesitation...
