What are they proposing? Do they have bills filed already?
It's ugly. I've never seen it uglier. And the DFL (Our Democrats) have control of both houses and the governor's mansion.
HF 241: Ban on 'assault weapons.' I won't list all the specifics, but it's bad. Start at the '94 AWB and just add more restrictions. Illegal to transfer, manufacture, or possess. Violation is a FELONY. Grandfathering only by registration requiring a fee for registration and fee for renewal (unspecified, of course, and up to the chief of police). You must have 'safe storage' for the 'assault weapons,' and be ready for inspection at any time, like an FFL dealer. Grandfathered firearms cannot be transferred, so when you die, the guns must be turned in to law enforcement for destruction.
HF 242: Ban on 'high-capacity magazines' holding more than ten rounds. Ban on possession, sale, manufacture, or transfer. Violation is a FELONY. NO grandfathering. Turn them in, plug them to ten rounds, or remove them from the state.
HF 298: Virtually all gun laws changed to allow 'local units of government acting to further a clearly stated public safety purpose and achieve a clearly stated public safety outcome' to establish their own gun laws.
Essentially, state preemption of local ordinances about guns would be over. All the sections of our carry law that clearly state that government officials do not have discretion with regard to permit issues are now modified to include the aforementioned exception. So now local municalities will have the ability to regulate licensed carry.
HF 307: Chiefs of police will now be the permit application point. The section allowing chiefs of police to contract permitting to the sheriff's office is removed. A cynic might note that this could be because the sheriffs are more supportive of concealed carry than the chiefs of police of the larger cities.

One thing politicians fear is being voted out of office - their version of "YOU ARE FIRED!". Many Democrats/liberals are probably fearing some of them maybe be voted out in the next election.
Maybe that happens in Iowa or Ohio or Texas. Not in Minnesota. >.<
