Opinions on "pretty Pistols"

To the OP:

My wife lets me hang "pretty" firearms on the wall.

Fortunately, she finds wood stocked bolt actions "pretty" and allows me to hang WWII surplus rifles.

She does NOT find any of my modern rifles "pretty".

I think she just doesn't want the house looking like a SWAT armory.

Which I would, personally, find very aesthetically pleasing.

But ... She Who Must Be Obeyed controls the decor.

My vote would be for a Colt Government with the bright stainless finish. Looks like chrome but is just a perfect polish on stainless. I've had two, one full sized and one Officer's model. Stupidly, I've sold both. They look like a work of art. To me they are almost a perfect as a Royal Blue Python.

How about getting a "T Series" Hi Power, a Sig P210, a Luger, a Colt 1911, a Walther PPk - and that's just getting started - for me the list is endless....

Savanahsdad,
+1 on the 238. My missus just got her permit. That was the first gun I showed her when we went looking. I don't sell my guns, so I suppose I'm stuck with the LCP in the safe. Once she saw that Sig, there weren't no looking back...
did you get her the same one ? the lady, with the Gold inlay on top ?, I wish I had a better pic of the top, I think that where the extra $80.00 is, lol

OP: Olympic arms has a 1911 that has a full case-harden finish on it , sharp looking gun

Something from Colt with their Royal Blue finish. What a good looking finish on a firearm.

Saw a '60s era (I believe) Gold Cup National Match with that deep dark, lose- yourself-in-it finish. Doesn't get much purtier.

Dan Wesson's are some drop dead pretty guns, too. The brushed stainless 1911s make me drool as long as they don't put those extra cocking serrations on it.

A Ruger Vaquero and then send it out to Doug Turnbull for some attention and his rather artful colour case hardening. Then cap it off with some really nice staghorn grip scales.

Of if you're not into the colour case look then get a stainless New Vaquero and send it off for some polishing to a mirror shine and then overall engraving and the same Sambar or other stag horn scales.

Either way the final outcome will be a gun which you certainly don't see at any other table at your local range. And if by some miracle you DO see the same thing then the two of you will have some fun times chatting about it...:D

All I can do is bring up the pistols that I personally find to be "pretty."

Sig Sauer P220, P226, and P229... But not just any 220, 226, or 229. One of the hard-to-find models, like the Equinox, Elite Stainless, Super Match, etc. I think Sigs are particularly attractive in the first place, but those models make them irresistible. LOL

EAA/Tanfoglio Witness... The Elites, the Match, or the Hunter. VERY nice, if you ask me.

These are the two main models that come to mind.

The only handguns that I find to be "pretty" would be some nice 1911's, the Browning Hi-Power, and a nice Colt SAA.

Part of that though may have to do with the things that I condier pretty. Stainless or nickle/chrome plated I like. Engravings I like. Nice quality checkered wood grips I like. Put all that on any nice all metal gun and I'd probably find it pretty, but such things are most commonly added to those pistols I listed above.

There are other guns that I think have a nice "modern" look to them (the SR9, the Caracal, the PX4 Storm, etc), but not really what I'd call pretty.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I think one of the best looking guns ever produced was the Mauser C96.

Note: This isn't my gun.

I would also be inclined to look into getting yourselves a pair of guns that you would both use and enjoy.

That a very good idea my friend,,,
Imagine going to the range and opening the case,,,
On a pair of (Insert Gun Name Here) to shoot side-by-side with.

In this event the gun might be the secondary factor.

The His & Hers matched pair might be the joy.

There's nothing wrong with a pretty gun.

In general I think revolvers are more aesthetically pleasing than are semi-autos. They are round and more organic looking.

This, to me, is pretty:

So is this...

I find these very attractive despite the worn finish...

Very pretty but you might not be able to do it these days for $1500. I paid $350 for it some time ago. I do love the shiny guns.

A well-worn Official Police for $185, plus new ivory stocks for $225, and you get... sweeeeet!

Take a plain-Jane Model 10 ($150 from a pawn shop), add engraving ($500 from Michael Gouse of Montana), throw on some ivory stocks (ouch, $375, but beautiful), and it don't get much prettier than this.

If you really want a semi-auto, some older designs are nice looking. Nothing wrong with a classic 1911 pattern pistol. Add some ivories for a touch of class. I have a fondness for the 38 Super.

Of course, the 1911 lends itself to engraving, as well.

IMHO, the 1911 is one of the prettiest, but I have a few very strict/picky ideas about them. It might sound OCD or weird, but hey: you asked what I think is pretty, and I think that if and only if all of the following criteria are met, then a full-size 1911 is absolutely the best looking handgun ever designed.
No external extractor. Mechanically I don't have a problem with them, aesthetically I think they're hideous.
No magwell, and no bumper pads on the bottom of the mag. I think adding length to the grip throws off the length-to-height ratio, and makes it look clumsy, and I want mags that are flush with the bottom of my gun.
No duo-tone. A gun should be all one color! Except for grips and sights of course. The only thing that stopped me from buying a used Ruger they had for cheap when I was hunting for one was the black small parts-on-stainless frame/slide (well, that and I decided not to buy a gun yet at the time). A pretty, safe-queen 1911 should be in all-stainless, everywhere. Maybe a hard chrome job, something matte, or maybe a good grey or black cerakote job, but NO TWO-TONE!
No ambi-safety. I'm right handed, and I think an extra thumb safety on the other side of the gun just doesn't look right.
No bobbed grips. They're GREAT for concealed carry, but we're talking about aesthetics here.
NO ROLLMARKS. Good luck finding one without getting it custom made, but I don't want ANYthing on my gun that denotes where or by whom it was manufactured. I understand the need for serial numbers but if I had my way there would be no lettering or etching of any kind on my gun.
As picky as all that sounds, I don't really care about the guide rod setup. If I was getting a gun custom built, I'd go with full-length, but I also think an end-cap looks pretty cool.

And that's my rant on what I personally think the most beautiful handgun in the world is.

I see mentions of the Classic High Power.

I have a new Adjustable Sight model High Power I got a few months ago.

It is one of the biggest dissappointments of all my considerable gun buying days.

A High Power is a wonderful choice, but get a mint condition version from the '50s.

Or any Colt from the same era. Beautiful polishing and bluing.
