I work with a guy thats willing to sell me his Jennings 32 cal auto pistol. He only wants $500 for it and will let me make three payments on it to pay it off. I think this would be a good CCW weapon and want to know what this forum thinks.

OMG
you are kidding right???

GOOGLE: Ring of fire guns, no wait, you are thinking about this, here's a link
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/guns/ring/hazard.html
Na, buddy, you can buy one NEW for less than 200, most wouldn't bother to use one as a fishing weight.

Bryco, jenning, locrin, raven...

EDIT:
if you want cheap, consider a Military Surplus gun like the Polish P64, or a German P6, or a Czech CZ 82 (techinally Vz.<-but this usually gets used to tell the rifles from the pistols)
Or buy a Kel Tec P32 (the are safe and even WORK) or a Kel Tec P3AT, or a Taurus, or a Ruger, or a Bersa.....

Good heavens, WHY? For the same final cost or close to it you can get an entry-level 1911 in most of the country...

As prior posters noted, plenty of cheaper and better options out there in more effective calibers.
NOTHING is cheaper than a ring of fire
MUCH higher quality (hell even a Hi-Point is better quality)

Less expensive would be correct.

THAT is not cheap for a .32 Jennings. IIRC correctly, that is 3x the factory MSRP. NEW it was a $150 gun. The only Jennings that stands up to even moderate use is the J22 .22LR (if one holds up to the first 100 rounds you have a keeper) and I considered mine used borderline overpriced at $75 in 1988.

A tick over one of those "payments" will get you a Kel-Tec P32, which will have a safer DAO trigger, no manual safety (not necessary with a DAO), a 75-percent weight reduction, a 25-percent size reduction, greater durability and reliability, and an additional round in capacity.

I'm still wondering if you didn't mean fifty bucks instead of five hundred (or ten guns instead of one!)

Incidentally, I do have a Jennings J-22, purchased new in 1987, for around $55 if I remember right. It's a functional piece, and I've had some fun with it over the years. But it's by no means a defensive piece for me.

Surely this is a joke. But I understand the seller's position. I have a slightly used 1999 Ford F150 I'd like to sell for $50,000. And if somebody offers me a bank check for that amount, the truck is theirs along with a set of spare keys, the tool box and every tool in it.

I'm glad you said "co-worker" and not "friend." I would be wary of that guy.

He must think you're dumb -- or you think we are and this is your idea of a joke. (Sort of like "trolling" but with a light-hearted intent.)

No, you don't want that. Save up some money and get something reputable.

I have a Jennings C9 that is okay. Don't shoot it a lot but it is reliable when I do shoot it.

I think I paid $80 or so in the box with 2 mags.

From your other posts on this forum, I suspect you're knowledgeable enough to well know the reputation of Jennings and are just joshing around.

However, if you must, look for a Davis P380. It's what the secret service uses and can chamber and fire anything from a .380acp to a .30-30Win, but expect to pay a premium.

There's nothing wrong with cheap guns as long as you're willing to work with them a bit to get them working well. I wouldn't recommend one as a CCW personally because there are many better options.

$500 is extremely high for that gun. $100 is about the normal value of a used Jennings or Bryco pistol in any caliber.

Just smile, say it isn't what you are looking for, and thank him for thinking of you. No hard feelings that way. And don't repeat what the folks said here.

Jim
