I bought a 22 semiauto.

Seems overpriced for a Mk I. I bought a Mk III about three years ago for $330 NIB.
This was also the Sports South Stainless Steel Distributor's Exclusive. Of course, handguns seem to have risen in price lately.

Anyhow, the Ruger .22s are about the most accurate out there and will last a lifetime.

The wife and I both took our CCW training using the Mk III with very good results.

If you paid a little too much for it, big deal. You got a gun you wanted. Before long you won't even think about how much you paid, you'll be too busy having fun with it.

The original price (on the box) was $149.50 so I didn't get a steal.

Ruger MK I's were made up until 1981, so your pistol is a MINUMUM 32 years old. Using 1981 as the starting date (your pistol most likely is older), and adjusting that $149.50 for inflation that would get you to $378.73 in 2013 dollars. Close enough for government work.

A few weeks ago, I gave my pristine 3rd gen Colt Woodsman to my youngest son, leaving me without a .22 pistol. I had pretty much lost interest in .22 pistols, but did have some interest in acquiring an inexpensive suppressor. A quick Google revealed that Ruger makes a Mark III 22/45 with a threaded barrel. I just happened to be in a gun range N of Atlanta the Sat. after I gave the Fri. that I gave the Woodsman away, so I asked the guy at the new guns counter about the Ruger. He kind of smirked and said that they did occasionally get them in, but they were always scooped right up. I meandered down to the end of the counter and, eureka, there was exactly what I was looking for, and priced pretty well, to boot @ $359.

Sure am glad I meandered down and spotted that beauty and hadn't just called in and asked if they had it in stock! I've bought three more Mark III 22/45s in the past two weeks, all Target Models. I bought the 4" models for my daughter and one of her friends and the 5.5" model for myself. $269 for the 4" barrels; $259 for my 5.5" barrel.

I love the Mark III 22/45s! Have found around 4k rounds of ammo; installed the Volquartsen accurizing kit in my initial purchase and the VQ target trigger only in the 5.5" model. I also installed the Tandemkross bushing in both, as well as on my daughter's. That bushing permits removing the parts that cause the pistol not to fire with the mag removed. It also permits the mag to drop free. Another modification was the "slingshot" mod, which consists only of removing the detent and spring from the bolt release. That permits slingshotting the bolt when inserting a fresh mag, instead of being required to use the bolt release.

Already bought the can and am waiting for the tax stamp.
