M&P pro. Super gritty trigger

This is common in virtually every M&P pistol you'll run across. Some are more gritty than others. All three of mine were like that when I bought them.

Yes it is caused by the safety block. You can remove it by removing the rear sight. Just be careful that as you drift the sight, you will expose a small metal disk that holds the safety block spring in place. Be sure to have your thumb, or a special tool for this, covering that disk as you remove the rear sight.

You can polish and reshape the safety block (be careful with this) or you can purchase a highly polished and reshaped safety block with a lighter spring from Apex Tactical. I have this product in all three of my M&P's and it is excellent. I completely removes all of the sandy/gritty pre-travel and delivers a smooth and lighter feeling trigger.

It is a simple fix. Try to use a drifting tool instead of hammering out your rear sight.... much easier. I have an M&P 9 Pro Series and it does have an improved sear. With the Apex USB (Ultimate Striker Block), this pistol delivers a 4 pound 12 ounce trigger with a very nice break.

The striker block is removed by drifting out the rear sight (it's underneath it).

From my understanding (I could be wrong) the Pro series just got a near sear vs the the regular. I thought the striker block was unchanged. In any event, Apex Tactical makes a replacement one that really helps. Since you've already paid for the Pro-sear, I'd try just replacing the striker block with the Apex one and see how everything feels after that.

Most people also seem to think that the Apex hardened sear is also better than the Pro-series sear from S&W (I've shot all 3 and prefer the Apex, but its not a strong preference).

The trigger bar is stamped steel or maybe MIM. It is rough on the edges. I was able to touch up the contacting points on mine with a stone after field stripping. I have heard people say dry firing it fixes this, but it was way quicker to do it with a stone.

I'm a bit surprised to hear this, The big internal improvement of the Pro over the regular M&Ps is the smoothed and recontoured Striker Block.

I'd call S&W CS and check, maybe a regular striker block got slipped into your Pro...maybe they'll send you a new one

My Pro 5" was really gritty, also. It smoothed up a bit after several hundred rounds.

It will never feel as nice as the Apex duty/Carry kit IMHO.

The included Warren Tactical/Sevigny Carry sights with Fiber Optic front should be factory on all pistols with a tritium dot up front being optional. They reek of awesomeness.

I just shot the hell out of mine and let a lot of my coworkers shoot it. The trigger is now pretty smooth.

Geez, I was considering buying an M&P.

I wouldn't consider it a problem. More of a preference.

I may find it gritty, the next person may think it is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I just happened to prefer the Apex kit's feel over the factory m&p pro work.

Gritty trigger isn't really a "problem". It's kind of a fact of life in sub-$500 mass produced firearms. It functions just fine and outside of a target shooting platform it likely wouldn't even be noticed (nor would it likely be noticed by anyone who hasn't shot a LOT and can tell the difference between a good trigger and a bad one).

BTW, when drifting the rear sight, remove it from left to right. The trigger bar is stamped steel. You can polish the bar and plunger as already mentioned.

The pro series does have better parts than the stock M&P's.

The M&P platform is an excellent one and one should not have any concerns about buying one of these pistols IF if fits your specific wants and needs. I have three, all are really fine guns, and my M&P 9 Pro has become my primary carry gun.

The Apex USB (Ultimate Safety Block) is a quality after market item that will significantly enhance the trigger feel and weight. It is worth the cost and is a simple install. I have this gem in all three of my M&P's and would not hesitate using it or recommending it to others. My M&P 45 4" barrel has the Apex DCAEK which contains various springs plus the USB and their hard sear. I replaced the Apex DCAEK trigger spring, because it is a heavier spring that the stock unit, and re-installed the stock spring. This gives me exactly what I want with that gun and the hard sear results in a break not unlike a quality 1911.

I have three, all are really fine guns, and my M&P 9 Pro has become my primary carry gun.

I carried my 9 Pro concealed, also. It isn't a problem with the right belt and holster. Even in IDPA form with a few spare mags, I never needed nothing more than a non-reinforced wilderness style belt.

I liked my m&p pro 9 quite a bit. It is a very nice handgun and I wouldn't let the sometimes "gritty" descriptions affect anyone's purchase of one. I agreed that mine felt gritty prior to breaking it in, but it was far from being a deal breaker. I just prefer a different platform.

just picked up a like new M&P9 and it has the super gritty trigger and have already dry fired over 200 times and then polished contact surfaces to little improvement... guess a hundred or so bucks spent is in order for new parts from APEX... really liking the pistol even though the trigger sucks badly...

I just installed the Apex FSS kit in my M&P 9mm. No rounds through it yet, but the trigger has a much improved feel. No more grit, much reduced take up and over travel. It's worth the few extra dollars and 15mins to get it installed.

Several options. 0.25 cent trigger job can clean things up,will not reduce trigger weight.Replace with newer S&W parts as S&W has done quite a bit to clean up the M&Ps terrible trigger. Apex make really good parts,S&W should buy these from them and just put them in their pistols,but the the M&P was built with cost cutting measures and price point parts in mind.
Now if they could only make the barrel hoods bigger to improve 9mm FS accuracy issues.

I have had my M&P 45 for right at 3 years now. I have never had any trouble with it and it shoots great.
I have found that most people that don't like the M&P have never shot one.
I have a M&P 9 on lay a way and will be giving it to my 15yo son. I think he will be pretty happy with it.
