Spetsnaz machete?

You could buy 10 brand new bolo machetes for the price listed in that auction....

Yes, a heavy short machete does make a great survival tool, useful for almost everything but fine work.

I didn't read the fine print ... but you are correct that the price in the add is some sort of ripoff and the wording is ridiculous. The general shape and layout of the machete looks like the Spetznatz tool. Maybe someone in Russia is making these things in their garage and now selling them off as "genuine Spetznaz equipment". That's probably what is going on.

One other comment about items designed for Spetsnaz use... I've always thought that russian or other combloc sneaky petes did most of their best work in spite of markedly inferior gear..... Just as the common Russian soldier in WWII did heroic things with almost nothing to work with (except their lives...).

In the early history of our country many of our own historic figures did great things with very, very little to work with -other than their own initiative and courage...

I don't know, but I bet turning those out in a garage isn't as easy as stamping old Cold War stuff with an origin when you import it.

That is just a regular Taiga chopper. Pretty common.

Sam ... thanks for that link. I didn't see the so-called "Spetznaz machete" there (I'm not doubting you) .... but the knife makers at that link do make gear for the Russian special forces. So it's not necessarily inconsistent.

One thing I did notice is that many of the melitak knives have solid alloy guards ... a feature that's hard to find on a lot of commercial US knives. It's definitely an advantage.

I think it has been superseded in production by the "Yelan".


edit: Melita-K might not have been the original contract manufacturer of the chopper in question.
