Marcy Kaptur of Ohio supports an Assault Weapons ban. Below is the entire letter as it was sent to me in the mail. I have voted for her in the past. Done with her.

Thank you for contacting me with your thoughts about gun ownership. As a strong defender of the U.S. Constitution, I have continuously voted to protect the Second Amendment rights while also ensuring that firearms do not end up in the hands of those dangerous to society.

Recent tragic events have renewed the debate about the role of guns in our society and what is the best way to reduce unnecessary gun violence. First and foremost, we must improve our mental health services. Today, less than half of children and adults with diagnosable mental health problems receive the treatment they need. This is inexcusable. Ensuring that our mental health services are available and effective could have an important role in preventing dangerous situations involving guns from occurring.

While I believe we must focus on improving our mental health services, Congress may consider numerous proposals related to reducing gun violence. Proposals suck as banning military-style automatic assault weapons, banning high-capacity magazines and strengthening the background check system have been discussed. No proposal has been put forward that would result in guns being confiscated and I would oppose such a measure. During these upcoming debates, I will keep your thoughts in mind. We must find appropriate means to protect both the safety and the rights assured to all Americans.

As your voice in the U.S. House of Representatives, I strive to represent your concerns and interests. Please do not hesitate to contact me again on this or any other issue, and do not forget you may always visit our online Congressional office at http://kaptur.house.gov.
Sincerely,

Marcy Kaptur.

Of course she supports a ban. She's not worried about crime. If crime on the streets got bad enough, she and her cohorts would vote for armed protection for themselves on our dime. What concerns her is the possibility of getting clipped by the average citizen who has had enough of being taxed/robbed blind by her and her ilk.

Again and again, what we have been seeing is that there isn't really such a thing as a Democrat who ACTUALLY supports the 2nd amendment. The sooner people quit fooling themselves into believing otherwise, the sooner all these gun debates can be behind us.

I got a very similar letter

and it took almost 2 months to arrive
I wrote her back, expressing my dismay at the slowness of her response
I also pointed out all the conceptual errors in her silly little letter, and offered remedial education in a really condescending way

It looks like you've got an inadvertent non-High-Road typo in your post.

"Proposals suck as banning military-style automatic" is what it reads right now.

I'm guessing it should read "such", not "suck". Funny tho'

I got the same letter delivered today from her office. My wife and I read it and chuckled. We already knew her answer before receiving word back from her. This "career" congresswoman needs to go.

Marcy Kaptur supports the ban? This would come as a surprise to who? Marcy Kaptur like Marcia Fudge and their ilk would support anything the Big O pushes. Do you believe for a moment these two have any interest in rights or can even begin to comprehend the US Constitution? Fortunately, right now in the US Congress they do not seem to be in the majority.

We've got plenty of 'em down here in the south. Google Blue Dog Democrat.

Votes matter more than party affiliation. Don't assume - do your research.

Derek makes a very good point. Don't narrow Democrat down to these northern rust belt areas when it comes to gun rights. Also, keep in mind that many of these southern Democrats will be the allies we need as the Obama Administration pushes this legislation.

If the Republican party really wants to get Marcy Kaptur out, they really need to put up a legitimate candidate to run against her, not some tool like Joe the plumber. If they don't, she will be in there until she's 80+. The last few that have run against her looks like a lineup of geeks and weirdos. Only someone halfways moderate will have a chance of getting many votes, including mine. This just might push me over to the Republcan side, but they have to have a sane candidate, not some whackjob like they have been picking for as far back as I can remember.
