I also have a confession to make (like SaxonPig)

I love 38/44's. I really do!

I was shooting a picture of my newest 38/44 OD (bottom) so SaxonPig convinced me I should make my confession that I like 38/44's and shoot an updated shot.

Hopefully in another 2 weeks or so I will add another 4" Heavy Duty to the mix.

While I have a passion for Heavy Duties, I enjoy shooting the Outdoorsman's probably the best. My current favorite to shoot is the one Oudoorsman with Target grips (second from the top left). Someone set this one up. High gloss finish, post war target hammer and target grips. It is a shooting fiend!

wow...that's a passion, for sure.

Can you give me the run-down on that particular gun?

Smith and Wesson, of course? Year ranges?

Caliber is .38 special, I assume?

To my intrigued, but untrained eye, I see barrel length and sight differences, but not much else. Is there a reason you have as many as you do(Asked with the utmost respect for your collection)? Does each one you have represent a different variation/factory option package, etc?

Sweet mother of pearl, you can't have ALL of them! I want one eventually, always liked them. You, my friend, must really, reeeeeeaaaaally like 'em! Beautiful collection you have there, lots of cool variations in grip style, barrel length, etc. I'd be happy with any of them. I'm glad you've been able to collect and preserve so many.

Really? I hadn't noticed.

Oh you mean those. 38-44's!

That's not love that's a total obsession!

I too love the old 38/44s but mostly because it introduced me to the 38/44 cartridge, or perhaps I should say the 38/44 loads of the 38 Special cartridge. Coming in at about 1100 fps for a 158g from a 4" barrel. It is all I shoot any more in both 357s and heavy build 38 Specials.

Yes they are all 38/44's.

Target models (Outdoorman's and one conversion Heavy Duty) on the right column. Heavy Duty's middle and left.

It all started with one gun and my love the 38/44 story. Like Dave T says above 1100 with a 158 LSWC is a lot of fun!

I only have one, but like Peter and Dave T, I sure get a kick out those old Elmer Keith 2400 loads. They make that old OD sing.

Wow.

Makes me think I should start actually buying Kframes, since I have a similar love for them ... but not the collection. :D

Well, if anybody has been trying to find an HD or an OD now they know why there don't seem to be any available.

You didn't collect those yourself. You had help. Someone else did that for you.
What do you need all those for?

Just kidding. Very nice collection. Now, I know why I can never find one.
Is there a "green with envy" smiley?
That is some serious blue steel goodness. They sure don't make them like that, anymore.

My goodness man you need professional help! WOW, that is a lot of .38's. Very nice collection but I have to ask how and where you store them?

When you take your revolvers to the range and firing a single cylinder full out of each one requires nearly 200 rounds of ammo; that's an addiction.
And that's just the tip of the iceberg, isn't it?
Damn fine collection, Sir.

It all started with just on 38/44 Outdoorsman and then I bought a 38/44 Heavy duty (April 1930 delivery by the way). That just led to me liking them and then buying a few more and a few more. Finally I decided I needed to specialize my collection, so I sold off a lot of my more generic guns (CZ, Beretta's, EAA's) and just focused the bulk of my collection on 38/44's and pre-numbered 357 Magnums.

I only have 3 other smith revolvers. A 610 to abuse on. A Pre-25 target piece and a K22 masterpiece that a friend shoots. I rarely do.

The 38/44 is the unsung hero of the big smiths. That is the reason I can afford to continue to buy them up and collect them. Pretty much my rule now is to buy everyone I see that is not nickeled or abused (converted to 357 magnum or the like).

You have 31 in that pic. That leaves one row with just one in it, so just to help you out, i'll let you send me the oddball. :D

That's not love that's a total obsession!

More like addiction. LOL

Very nice collection. Maybe i'll get there someday

Blue revolver fan; I knew that to be the case before you posted. My Colt Diamondback collection might turn a few eyes, but I am not going to photograph it.
