Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) announced Thursday that the Senate will “take a pause” and return to consideration of gun legislation at a later date.
“Yesterday, President Obama said it was a shameful day for the Senate, and it probably was, I agree. But we should make no mistake: This debate is not over, in fact this fight is just beginning,” Reid said on the Senate floor Thursday.

Reid said the Senate would “take a pause and freeze the background check bill where it is” and return to it at an undetermined date, likely with consideration of other proposed amendments.

Some tragic thing will happen, more than likely. (I've even read the NRA was at fault for the Marathon fiasco ) They'll continue to work their base, over and over. Combine the two and it's "Katie bar the door" again.

Meanwhile, we should not rest on any laurels but take the offense. Run intelligent polls nationwide, not just the east coast, push the "civil right" aspect, teach and emphasis the history of RKBA, teach young kids firearm safety, let them have fun learning a new sport... (indoctrinate responsible behavior and pride of accomplishment) etc... not to mention stay politically active because the 2014 election is coming up fast, because, as Harry said, "In Fact, This Fight is Just Beginning".

... and while we are busy doing that, hopefully the ammunition mfgs will catch up so we can one day go back to enjoying the liberty of the shooting sports. Or maybe our kids and grandkids can (I hope)

If Harry Reid is all of the sudden hell bent on passing gun control legislation, why did he vote no yesterday? I don't get it. Doesn't/didn't he have a A+ rating with the NRA and isn't he a life member?

So the arcane Senate procedural rules will allow him to bring a similar bill up for a vote again this session (that's the reasoning I've heard) and so he can preserve his bogus "A" rating--which I presume the NRA will downgrade regardless of voting record evidence at this point. This last go-around has shown the NRAs rating system is incapable of distinguishing a genuine supporter of RKBA from a Fudd of Convenience. IIRC Toomey (of Manchin & Toomey fame) had a A rating as well, and he dang near sold out "40% of all gun sales" in the name of being reasonable.

"Senate procedural rules", he's the speaker, isn't his job to make sure the Senate procedural rules are followed correctly? Hopefully the good people of Nevada will take care of this the next time he runs. Here in New Yorkistan we're stuck with the two anti senators we have. Down state controls our state wide elections.

The sad thing is if Reid gets unelected, Chuckles Schumer is almost sure to be the next Senate Majority Leader*. Whatever problems Reid has, he is much better than Schumer.

*Assuming Dems still control the Senate when Reid next faces election

I've been a happy camper since hearing the news yesterday. Barry, Harry & DiFi got their butts handed to them. Finally a good outcome for Constitutional rights.

To the contrary, I'm not going to afford myself the luxury of being a happy camper. IMHO, this was not a definitive win for 2A rights. This is a battle that just got deferred. And next time, the anti-2A crowd is going to get more organized, push harder, and push though as many avenues as they can muster.

Rather than celebrating, I'd be girding for an sustained onlaught via anti-2A politicians (well coordinated between the Executive and legislators - so much for separation of powers), via the mainstream media, via anti-2A organizations and non-profits, via certain politician-millionaires, and other fellow travellers.

No, this battle is not over, not by a long shot. After licking their wounds, they may realize that the Feinstein bill (then amendment) was an ill-considered overreach. If they are smart, they will tell the dimwit from California to sit the next one out. They are arrogant, but not dumb. Any means will justify their ends.

You would be most welcome over here. We can always find room for another 2A supporter.

You are looking at a tough fight Blackstone, but the UK can win their rights back if the people will come together and demand that they not be forced to be victims any longer.

I feel sorry for people that live in anti gun states like CA or NY. However, we have to have our people on all fronts. If it werent for the few pro gun people in NY or CA they wouldnt be able to have a gun period.

Only the winning side can call a revote. Otherwise the losing side would call for continuous revotes and stop further business, more or less. My wife was a parlimentarian and explained how it works.

This and/or a favorable election eventually. They realize that they had been too slow and allowed a good tragedy to largely go to waste by letting emotions peter out, but the next group of victims--preferably children--will stir those emotions right back up again, and this time they'll be fully prepared to take immediate advantage of the lack of reason.

I have said it before, but if you want to understand the Senate, and politics there, you need to study the rules.

Also the power structure.

I have heard a lot of people make fun of idiot politicians who don't understand how guns work, and why people want them. What a lot of gun owners don't understand is how ignorant they are of politics, how government works, and the political strategy's politicians use to get what they want.

I won't pretend to be an expert on the subject of politics, but I do know enough to be just a bit dangerous.

Also has anyone here read the Toomey/Manchin Bill? It isn't a slam dunk that defeating that Bill was best option. There were a lot of very good things in what they proposed. On the other hand, watching the President have a hissy fit on National television was well worth it.
